Job DescriptionTHE COMMISSIONERS OF NORTHERN LIGHTHOUSESCurrently have a vacancy for aEngine Room Technician (ERT)For service onboard their Aids to Navigation Tenders on a fixed manning rota – 28 days duty followed by 28 days leave.The Northern Lighthouse Board is the General Lighthouse Authority for Scotland and the Isle of Man, responsible for the superintendence and management of all lighthouses, buoys and beacons within those waters. We have provided this vital safety service to mariners since 1786.The Role – Overview The Engine Room Technician is required to assist the Engineer Officers with the operation of ships machinery in a safe, efficient and environmentally friendly manner and will be required to carry out maintenance and repairs on ships machinery.Salary and Benefits ·      £40,213 to £43,220 per annum depending on skills and experience. ·      A Civil Service Pension with an average employer contribution of 28%·      Generous sick pay scheme and family leave policies. ·      Excellent training and development opportunitiesApplications are invited from those who have the following..·      An STCW95 Engineering Watch Rating certificate, or a relevant mechanical background experience & a willingness to work towards this within an agreed timeframe.Experience in any of the following trades: Marine/ Mechanical/ Automotive/ Electrical/ Refrigeration/ Hydraulic Engineering  .Valid STCW95 basic training courses.ISPS Proficiency in Designated Ship Security Duties ·      Suitable knowledge of ship’s engineering and safety systems or experience as listed above.·      Valid unrestricted MCA Medical Certificate (ENG 1).For further details and an application pack please download an application from our website Closing Date: Wednesday 10th December 2025The NLB is an Equal Opportunities Employer
