Job DescriptionMechanical Maintenance Engineer  Location: Croydon Salary: £43,000 per annum + OTNightshift Rota 19:00hrs to 04:45hrs We are currently recruiting for a hands-on Mechanical Maintenance Engineer / Handyman to join a busy rail depot team working on rolling stock. This role is ideal for someone with a strong practical background in mechanical maintenance and handyman repairs, who takes pride in high-quality work and attention to detail.You’ll be working in an Engineering team responsible for internal and external maintenance of train carriages — ensuring they are safe, clean, and finished to the highest standard. Key Responsibilities of the Mechanical Maintenance Engineer / HandymanCarry out day-to-day maintenance and repair work on train carriagesSurface preparation, sanding, filling, interiors and exteriors of rolling stockFitting and replacing fixtures, trim panels, door seals, strip fittings, and flooringMinor carpentry, sealing, and general fabrication tasksUse of hand and power tools to complete planned and reactive tasksAssisting engineering teams with depot-based maintenance programmesEnsuring all work is carried out safely and in line with rail industry standards Skills & Experience Required of the Mechanical Maintenance Engineer / Handyman Previous experience in a maintenance, handyman or light engineering roleStrong practical skillsConfident using power tools for strip fitting and basic installationsAbility to work independently or as part of a team in a safety-critical environmentExcellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workWillingness to work in a rail depot environment (full training and PPE provided)Experience working in rail or rolling stock is desirable but not essential — transferable skills welcomeWhat We Offer the successful Mechanical Maintenance Engineer / HandymanCompetitive salary with overtime opportunitiesFull industry and safety training provided (PTS / depot induction if required)Free travel on all our NetworkStable, long-term role with opportunities for progressionAll tools and PPE suppliedSupportive team environment with strong safety cultureIf you are interested in this Mechanical Maintenance Engineer / Handyman role, then please apply today
