Summary Penrhyn Castle, its garden and parkland is one of National Trust Cymru’s most significant pay for entry sites. This General Manager role will be challenging and rewarding in equal measure; it is the driving force behind opening our places to the public,and the key leadership role within a property. Penrhyn Castle is a key feature in the newly designated ‘Slate Landscapes of North West Wales World Heritage Site’ and its history, which is both challenging and fascinating is of huge significance to local communitiesand their heritage.

Our General Managers operate with a significant degree of autonomy, leading from the front, inspiring and motivating teams, turning strategy into reality, delivering across a broad range of operational areas that bring the nature, beauty and history of ourplaces alive for our members and visitors, and working to create an inclusive culture where everyone can feel a sense of belonging.

What it's like to work here Penrhyn Castle is a Victorian house disguised as an enormous neo-Norman castle, with a varied programme of exhibitions and events that bring this unique property to life. Penrhyn’s history is staged upon slavery, slate, splendour and strikes and we’ve beentransforming how we tell this special place’s story to move, teach and inspire our visitors through our What a World exhibition and the exciting incorporation of our slate landscapes story. Our visitors are attracted to the Castle’s State Rooms and the ‘hidden’and ‘untouched’ rooms in the Keep, as well as the stunning 60-acre grounds, which include a Victorian walled garden and boasts amazing views across to Snowdonia. We’re also working hard to make strong local connections through our ‘Tu Hwnt i’r Castell / BeyondPenrhyn’ programme of engagement to really make everyone feel welcome.

What you'll be doing We are looking for an outstanding General Manager to lead our team at Penrhyn Castle. The priorities for this role will be to ensure we play a full and active part in the newly designated WHS, interpreting Penrhyn’s rich and challenging history to our visitors,becoming more relevant to our local communities and being an effective partner. At the same time you’ll ensure that we look after the fabric of this important building and collection and ensure that we make the most of its un-tapped assets such as the garden. You’llprovide inspirational and dynamic leadership to a team of staff and volunteers, as well as having an eye on the day-to-day delivery and seasonal programming of a vibrant visitor experience encompassing nature, buildings and collections and with exceptionalcustomer service at its heart; you’ll also plan for the future working with neighbouring General Managers, wider Wales teams and national specialists as we recover from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. You will work on national thinking when opportunitiesarise and play a significant external facing role with our communities, partner government organisations, and political stakeholders to ensure our charitable impact is maximised; as well as managing ongoing investment, risk, compliance and championing conservation.
