Willow Bank house is looking for a compassionate Head of care to join our team.

**HEAD OF CARE JOB DESCRIPTION**

**SUMMARY OF THE ROLE**

Head of Care is a role for a confident and experienced individual who has a passion for caring for the elderly. You will have worked in care for several years, preferably in a nursing or residential home and progressed to at least a Senior Carer in that time.

You will use your skills and experience to lead the resident care along with the Deputy Manager and the Manager and take responsibility for the care team. Your main focus will be to work towards providing the best standards of care, recognising the need for continuous improvement whilst actively involving the residents. You will support the Deputy Manager and Manager in the performance of their duties and accept delegated responsibilities from them.

As well as monitoring how care is delivered, you will need to motivate, teach and manage your care team. You will need to have a strong knowledge of CQC regulations as well as the policies and procedures of the home.

**ABOUT YOU**:

- NVQ 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent.
- Several years of experience in care already - preferably some as a Senior Carer.
- Good communication skills.
- Excellent paperwork skills and experience with writing care plans.
- A positive attitude.
- Confident in your care knowledge and able to lead a team.
- Not afraid to get your hands dirty.

**PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Accountable to: Manager, Deputy Manager, (Nurses)**

1. To provide personal care required for each individual service user encompassing physical, psychological and spiritual care whilst encouraging independence.

2. To maintain accurate care records, confidentiality and dignity of service users and maintain a professional image at all times.

3. To assist in the formulation of individual care plans, implementation, monitor, review monthly and update as necessary the plans of Residential service users.

4. To be aware of and to enforce Health & Safety legislation and the contents of the Staff Handbook.

5. To administer medication (if medication trained), daily stock count for tablets, follow policy and procedures with any medication error, responding to GP and OPMH instructions, being aware of Warfarin policy.

6. To order continence aids for the residents.

7. To support other staff in the planning and delivering of personal care, to ensure that all documentation relating to such care as required by the legislation for CQC is maintained accurately through reporting/documenting.

8. To support trained staff with the training and development of less experienced /new members of staff and work through an induction with new starters.

9. To monitor new staff members and feedback to Manager.

10. To be the first point of contact for any concerns or issues involving the care team.

11. To be aware of staff training and arrange for any training identified with the manager.

12. To take responsibility for the supervisions of allocated care staff members.

13. To ensure that the care team contribute to the efficient and successful running of the home.

14. To ensure that the appearance of the care staff uniforms is of a consistently high standard and to re-order new uniforms according to the home’s procedure.

15. To participate in activities which will enhance the quality of life of the service users.

16. To carry out any other duties which are reasonably asked of you.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: £12.00-£12.50 per hour

Expected hours: 36 - 48 per week
