Community Assistant - Salford based
24 hours a week.
This role is a 12 month fixed-term position running in parallel with an agreed set of learning and training opportunities; this includes pathways and opportunities to accredited qualifications. The role focuses on retail shops, operating a Food Pantry where we support those experiencing food poverty. Additionally you will be required to learn and ultimately deliver outputs from a number of development/change projects. All the work includes regular use of Technology. As Community Assistant you will be working within the Charity sector, learning about how we address Food Poverty, operational aspects of a Social Enterprise, specifically retail and running alongside this will be work with Companions, Volunteers and staff colleagues. Development of our Social Enterprise has already begun and in this role your work will be an integral element of that development. You will be a member of our staff team, learning about business, sales, and learning supervisory skills that bring a fresh perspective to our existing services whilst supporting or embedding change. Emmaus Salford is a busy Community, and you will learn to deal a wide range of situations, both internally and some that are external as we consider our environmental impact and how we help those who access/use our services. The work is in three main stages, following completion of our Induction process you will focus on work within Lucie’s Pantry our Social Supermarket; the second stage will be on the wider operational aspects of a Social Enterprise and specifically within retail, generating income and providing services, including elements of Solidarity work. The third stage is People Focused and will further develop your skills in one of several areas of work; a decision as to which area(s) you will focus on will be agreed personally with you in weeks 39-40 of your employment. As well as supporting our Social Enterprise business our Community Home includes a full commercial kitchen, and you will be working with Companions, and Staff colleagues. A significant focus will be given to the smooth running of Lucie’s Pantry, Zero food Waste along with taking a lead role in overseeing logistics which will include Pantry stock collections and/or social enterprise collections & delivery schedules; plus a focus on operational management & cost efficiencies, and some solidarity projects. You will be supervised by and report directly to the Business Development Manager. Trustees are the employer and hold strategic responsibility for the development of the social enterprise and the Community as a whole. Working alongside all staff you will ensure that Companions and Volunteers are able to provide the best possible customer service. You will be expected to support and contribute to the sustainability of the Community as a whole and its ethos in recycling through the day to day operational services in its retail functions and in utilising Companion’s skills. In addition you will be required to build sound relationships with customers other external bodies locally and regionally who can support and offer opportunities to Companions. You must always endeavour to maintain and uphold the policies and procedures of the organisation, in the best interests of Emmaus Salford. Our aim is to ensure that all resources are utilised effectively and efficiently and you are expected to use sound ‘value for money’ principles in undertaking any duties allocated to you. This role is working 40 hours position; however, flexible working will be considered, days to be worked include Saturday. You may be required to undertake other duties as requested by the Chief Operating Officer and /or Trustees
