**Job description**:
Future Transport Systems & Environment (FTSE) is a friendly, multidisciplinary analytical team made up of economists and social research/behavioural scientists. Our diverse portfolio of work covers self-driving vehicles, vehicle standards, climate change adaptation, air quality, modal choice and future of transport strategy.
FTSE’s purpose is to ensure that DfT can create a sustainable transport future by considering systems-level enablers, driving innovation and creating the right incentives, as well as setting effective regulatory and decision-making frameworks. Our policy areas have strong links to high priority Government strategies to deliver for the environment, make transport more inclusive and improve the transport user experience.
We are looking for three SEO Economists to cover one of the three areas:
- International Vehicle Standards (IVS)
- Environment, Adaptation, Systems & Strategy (EASS)
- Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV)
**Responsibilities include but are not limited to**:
- Leading value-for-money and appraisal analysis, to provide expert advice with regards to impact assessments, business cases and delivering impactful outputs to influence complex policy areas
- Scoping out and delivering research to influence decision-making
- Identifying strategic evidence gaps and working with multidisciplinary teams to develop the evidence base
- Working independently and autonomously to deliver a portfolio of analytical projects
- Building strong relationships with policy colleagues, external stakeholders and consultants to deliver together
- Communicating with senior leaders in the policy and analytical teams, tailoring communication styles to ensure analysis and evidence has impact.
- Leading ad hoc analysis on topics of strategic importance to FTSE

**Person specification**:
**About you**:
To be successful in this role as a Senior Assistant Economist, we are looking for someone who will bring their expertise to continue unpicking and developing analysis of the regulatory and investment impacts of decisions being taken in policy.
You are someone who can communicate complex technical information to a wide range of stakeholders in non-technical terms, communicating with impact.
You will be a proactive team member who can work collaboratively to achieve progress on shared objectives.
**Additional Information**:
A minimum of 40% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.
