Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (Apprentice) roles
A number of full-time apprentice positions are available in three different Improving Access to Psychological Professions (IAPT) services - in Ealing, Hounslow and Hammersmith & Fulham in West London. All posts are permanent positions. They will be paid at Agenda for Change Band 4 and following successful completion of the course apprentices will move onto a Band 5 qualified PWP positions.
As part of this position you will be enrolled on an Apprentice PWP training course at the University of Exeter. The training will provided remotely and also face-to-face at a central London location. More information can be found here: Exeter degree apprenticeship information
As an apprentice trainee PWP you will be taught a variety of skills including how to conduct an initial triage, risk assessment and the delivery of low intensity psychological interventions. Regular supervision will be provided from a qualified PWP or CBT therapist.
After qualifying from the PWP training course you would be paid at Band 5 as a qualified PWP. We are very keen to ensure a career development for PWPs and therefore provide opportunities within our services for PWPs at both Band 6 and 7.
Apprentices will be attending training for 2 days/ week and will be required to travel to their team base on the other days. Successful applicants will be asked to express a first, second and third preference for team base but this cannot be guaranteed.
Hours of work will be 9am - 5pm four days a week and 12-8pm on one day a week. However, some flexibility with start and finish times can be considered in order to support staff who have caring or other responsibilities.
West London NHS Trust is one of the most diverse providers of mental health, community and social care in the UK.
Our 3,982 staff care for people in hospital and in the community, helping them to recover and go on to lead full and productive lives. We aim to be the best organisation of our kind in the country.
We provide care and treatment for more than 800,000 people living in the London boroughs of Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Hounslow, delivering services in the community (at home, in GP surgeries and care homes), hospital, specialist clinics and forensic (secure) units.
We’re rated good overall by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Together, we’re committed to promoting hope and wellbeing, working with patients, service users, carers, families and partners across the communities we serve.
We are keen to ensure that our workforce reflects the community it serves, particularly in terms of ethnicity, gender, disability, LGBTQ+ and experience of mental illness.
West London NHS Trust and addressing inequalities
West London is one of the most diverse and vibrant areas of the capital and our staff reflect the diverse communities we serve. Our sense of community and pride in our work stems from the difference which every member of our staff makes. We’re many people, but one team. We are committed to challenging social inequality and disadvantage, and are looking for staff who can help us towards this goal.
As a Trust we are aware that entry to the psychological professions is often confined to those who can undertake unpaid/ voluntary work experience. Volunteer experience may disadvantage those less able to volunteer their time, in particular people from minority ethnic backgrounds, or who have experienced socio-economic disadvantage, or who are carers.
Therefore, these roles are particularly aimed at those who would be disadvantaged if they had to undertake voluntary work. We particularly welcome applicants from (but not limited to) minority ethnic backgrounds, those who have experienced socio-economic disadvantage, or who are carers or have faced other barriers to entering the profession.
For further details regarding the role and responsibilities, please refer to the attached Job Description and Person Specification.
