Kingston upon Hull, United Kingdom Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust Full time

We are a well established, ageless, Core 24 Liaison Psychiatry Service based within Hull Royal infirmary whilst also covering Castle Hill Hospital.

This is a very exciting time for the service as we are recruiting a number of Band 3 Support, Time and Recovery workers to support the service development in line with the NHS Long Term Plan for Mental Health.

The Mental Health Liaison Service currently delivers comprehensive mental health assessments, brief intervention, care planning and signposting/referral for patients who present to the A&E department or who have been admitted to hospital. The team works closely with many community services in order to help collaboratively serve the needs of those with mental health difficulties.

Common presentations include suicidal ideation, deliberate self-harm, depression, dementia, alcohol misuse and psychosis. Due to the demands of acute care medicine, urgent care and ED pressures the work is diverse and fast paced and the support workers play a pivotal role in this.

We are now in the process developing a bespoke Emergency Department 'streaming area' which will function as a safe and therapeutic space for those attending the Emergency department and awaiting assessment by MHLS. As a Support, Time and Recovery worker you will be an integral part of this new initiative.

As the post holder, you will be working as part of the multi-disciplinary team within the Emergency Department and also on the hospital wards. Your role will involve making first contact with patients referred to the service within the emergency department, supporting those awaiting assessment in the streaming area, conducting reviews of patients admitted onto wards, providing emotional support and psychosocial interventions to those patients referred to the Mental Health Liaison Service, assisting the qualified practitioners in the assessment of patient’s and also providing liaison to a wide variety of community services.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated people who are flexible and have excellent inter-personal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, carers and staff. You must be able to demonstrate a high standard of interpersonal skills including empathy, warmth and understanding and have a good knowledge of mental health issues. You must also be able to demonstrate experience of working with people experiencing mental health difficulties.

We are an award winning and CQC rated good, health and social care Trust that delivers care to communities in Hull, East Yorkshire, Scarborough and Ryedale and Whitby. We deliver safe, effective and integrated health services that improve the physical, mental and social health and wellbeing of our patients and service users.

We value our staff and invest in them to ensure they have the right skills and competencies to deliver outstanding care.
