**About the role**:
National Museums Scotland is one of the leading museum groups in Europe. With one of the largest and most diverse collections in the world, they are responsible for the acquisition, preservation and display of a substantial part of Scotland’s cultural, historic and national heritage. Millions of local and international visitors enjoy their four museums each year, and they also introduce their collections to a much wider audience than can physically visit their museums through, touring exhibitions, loans, community engagement, digital programmes and research. Over the last decade, they have invested over £120 million in their sites and have more than doubled their visitor numbers, with over 3 million people now visiting their four museums. Alongside this, they have continued to transform how they communicate and engage with their audiences. 2019 has seen the completion of their Masterplan for the National Museum of Scotland with the opening of three new galleries dedicated to Ancient Egypt, East Asia and the Art of Ceramics.

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to work for the National Museums of Scotland as a Driver/Support Assistant at the Museum’s storage facilities in Granton. The role is varied, providing operational support in the warehouses and includes: general warehousing/porterage; manual handling and/or the use of materials handling equipment to move, materials, furniture, equipment and crated/palletised objects; reception / security duties and activities such as escorting of contract personnel and janitorial services.
- A full uniform will be provided.
- 37 hours a week.
- You will be driving the Museum’s vehicles between our Edinburgh sites at Chambers Street, Edinburgh Castle, Granton and outwith Edinburgh as required; safely transporting passengers, mail and materials in compliance with Road Safety legislation.
- You will be required to drive the Museum’s 3.5 tonne vehicles transporting a wide variety of museum objects.
- With good knowledge of the Highway Code, you must hold a full clean driving license/have incurred no driving endorsements in the previous five years and be over the age of 25.
- You will have extensive driving experience, such as driving 3.5 tonne vans (vehicle category B).
- A knowledge of vehicle /safety checks and basic maintenance is essential.
- You need to have a good working knowledge of Health and Safety at work procedures including practical experience of manual handling and lifting equipment.
- General housekeeping and janitorial experience would be beneficial.
- Calm under pressure, you will be able to prioritise and adapt your workload to deliver warehouse services.
- We are looking for someone who can work well with colleagues and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills are essential.
- The possession of a Driver Certificate of Competence, a current First Aid Certificate and certification/experience of operating a counterbalanced forklift truck would be desirable.
