**Salary**: £24,024- £25,183 (during course)**

**£30,559- £33,366 (upon successful completion)**

**Hours**: 37 hours per week, rising to 40 hours per week on successful completion of the programme.**

**Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday after April 25 Tuesday to Friday**

**Our Service**:
North Yorkshire Council’s Waste and Streetscene Service is a hugely important one. The service is one of the most visible services across the council, and every staff member plays a key role in the effective and efficient delivery of the service.

Teams work in small crews in your dedicated area of the county, collecting residual waste, garden waste, food waste or recyclable materials from domestic properties.

We are incredibly supportive of the apprenticeship programme and have a proven track record - many of our apprentices have thrived and progressed within the organisation into permanent positions and higher graded roles. The job profile document attached provides you with an outline of the role, which you will be working to whilst you complete your apprenticeship. Once you obtain your C class qualification as part of your apprenticeship, you will gradually start driving HGV’s on waste and recycling rounds. On completion of the apprenticeship programme, you will be ready to move into a permanent driver position where you will be driving HGV vehicles each day, including leading collection crews and ensure that service delivery and customer satisfaction is paramount.

**The Role**:
As an Apprentice Driver, you will be committed to undertaking and completing Level 2 Urban Driver apprenticeship over a 12 month period.

Whilst gaining this qualification, you will be supporting waste and recycling crews on a day to basis, as well as attending relevant training and learning parallel to your apprenticeship. Your day-today tasks will include:

- Collection and emptying of receptacles.
- Removing spillages, checking of service lists, and reporting instances outside of acceptable presentation.
- To support the driver in undertaking risk assessments
- Assisting the driver, ensuring manoeuvres are completed safely and mitigate the risk to pedestrians and other road users.
- Responsible for the health and safety of self and colleagues, ensuring that all safe working practices are followed.
- You will also be trained in cleansing duties to meet operation need.

If you have previous experience in any waste management roles and an interest in the environment then that’s great, but you will be given all the support and training you require regardless of experience. You may be looking for a change of direction and to do something different - if so then this could be the ideal opportunity for you. You will need to hold a valid UK driving licence (at least Cat B i.e. car licence) in order to access the apprenticeship and must be 18 years old by the time you gain the provisional vocational licence.
