New Roles Lead
Nationally, mental health services are facing the most significant transformation of recent times, during an exceptional period of time in history. Significant growth and transformation of the mental health workforce is needed to meet the requirements of the NHS Long Term Plan (LTP).
In response to this, funding has been secured to develop a small dedicated workforce planning team working to support both Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust (SPFT) and the wider Integrated Care System (ICS) to deliver the workforce challenge.
The newly formed team will be led by the Head of Mental Health Workforce Planning, and supported by several critical roles; one of which being the New Roles Lead post. In this role, you can expect to take the lead in exploring creative alternatives to delivering mental health services - through non-NHS models of delivery, working closely with independent providers to generate proposals and business cases for implementation.
You'll also work together with the Workforce Intelligence and Reporting Lead to design, develop, monitor and manage a central database of new roles available and training opportunities across the system.
Interested?
As the New Roles Lead, you will have lead responsibility for scoping, raising awareness and engaging the Trust and wider Integrated Care System to adopt and embed new roles within Mental Health services. Working in collaboration with senior system partners you will ensure that sound supporting infrastructures are in place to enable early and safe adoption of new roles and ways of working.
Because this is a new team, you’ll be instrumental in developing the team strategy, vision, and goals together with the operational aspects of the service. You won’t be the only new team member either - we all are. In addition, you’ll have opportunities to develop both professionally and personally.
Another key element of this role will involve supporting the Trust and ICS in the commissioning of training courses offered through a variety of sources e.g. Higher Education Institutes (HEI's) and Further Education (FE) colleges, working together with local, regional and national agencies to maximise opportunities through economies of scale and collaborative approaches which extend within and outside of the Sussex ICS footprint.
We provide mental health and learning disability care for children, young people and adults across Sussex and for children and young people in Hampshire as part of the wider Sussex Health and Care Partnership (which is sometimes called the ‘system’ or Integrated Care System (ICS))
**Working in Sussex**:
- Travel easily between coast and countryside, with a blend of picturesque villages and seaside towns there’s always new experiences to be enjoyed
- Embrace the city life with great access to visit Brighton and London
We’d love you to join our organisation that is rated ‘good’ overall and ‘outstanding’ for caring by the Care Quality Commission. Our staff agree, with 82% of people in our recent staff survey telling us that they recognise that care for patients is our top priority.
**Other key staff survey results include**:
- 70% highlighting flexible working opportunities as a key point for satisfaction at work
- 79% reporting feeling able to make suggestions to improve the work within their team
- 77% identifying the opportunities to show initiative in their roles
We encourage flexible working. We know that a positive work/ life balance brings about huge health-related benefits, which has a positive impact on the care we provide. Please speak to us about flexible working, for example, home-working, part time hours, flexible start/ finish times or anything else. If it works for you and works for the role, we'll do our best to make it happen.
We need our New Roles Lead to have a ‘can do’ approach and attitude.
Working as a proactive team member, who regularly contributes to the teams shared values, vision and goals is an essential requirement to be successful in this role. You’ll be someone who values other people, is kind and familiar with the challenges of working in the health and social care system and is comfortable working with a degree of ambiguity.
Amongst other skills, you'll have experience leading and undertaking formal organisational and structural change, demonstrating a natural ability to influence and persuade colleagues wherever they sit within the system hierarchy.
You'll also be able to prepare, produce and present concise, yet insightful communications for dissemination to a broad range of stakeholders; which supports the vision and objectives of the workforce planning team across all parts of the system. Agility of mind is essential, as is the capability to plan over short, medium and long-term timeframes.
Ideally, we would like you to work full time but are willing to work flexibly with you in relation hours and patterns of work. You might already be working in the system and 'have itc
