Lead Design Engineer

An opportunity has arisen for a talented Lead Design Engineer to join one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of laser and aesthetic equipment to the medical, cosmetic, and beauty industries. This role will take on senior responsibilities at a Team Lead level and you’ll have the opportunity to grow and shape the R&D function as the business continues to grow and invest.
**As Lead Design Engineer, your responsibilities will include**:
- Taking responsibility for the definition, design, development, verification, validation and support of company products alongside maintaining the ISO13485 quality framework via defined product development processes
- Working closely with the R&D Engineering Manager and stakeholders to acquire, analyse, and verify product requirements (user). Taking sometimes abstract ideas and turning them into the detail.
- Working with the R&D engineering manager to elaborate stakeholder requirements into system, sub-system, and interface requirements across H/W, F/W, S/W domains.
- Coordinating the specialist R&D development engineers during sub-system prototype construction (electronic, mechanical, photonic H/W, F/W, S/W), and verification testing.
- Controlling the technical configuration of the developed product.
- Working with the R&D management to evaluate/agree/control the system design via functional, behavioural, and physical architectures, along with justifications of associated trade-offs.
- Working with the colleagues to verify system requirements are met during system integration (H/W & S/W), system verification and validation
- Demonstrating compliance to medical device standards via traceability between product (user) and system (H/W & S/W) requirements.
**What we are looking for in a Lead Design Engineer**:
The ideal person will have the following experience and skills, however if you’re interested but you’re missing some of these - we’d still love to hear from you as you’ll receive plenty of investment in training and development in this company.
- Experienced with product development including technical requirement and verification/validation test definition at a senior level or looking to take on more senior responsibilities. (essential)
- A good awareness of electrical hardware and circuit board design: Schematic capture, PCB layout and manufacture. (essential)
- Proficient use of PCB tools
- Technical system and test requirement generation and management (essential)
- Proven ability to analyse and interpret measured results and solve problems.
- Experience with power circuit and voltage regulator design
- Circuit simulation techniques and tools.
- Mechanical HW fundamentals.
- Photonics/optics/laser fundamentals
- Knowledge/use of Systems Engineering (SE) tools and techniques.
- Experience with medical device development and technical best practice regulatory product standards.
The role is based from the manufacturing facility near Crewe, Cheshire and early days you’ll need to be there more often than not, however hybrid and flexible and working patterns can be available.
