We are currently recruiting for a Food Service Assistant to work on a short-term, full-time contract with a local Police Force based in Preston.

The contract entails a 32 hour working week, paid at £12 per hour.

**Role overview**:
To assist in the preparation of food, servicing of meals with agreed methods and portion control, assist in stock taking including checking delivery and storage of stock and general catering duties.

Take an active role in promoting the catering facilities including undertaking promotional events.

**Main Responsibilities**:

- To undertake basic food preparation duties, including breakfast production, preparing vegetables, fruit, salad and cold buffets
- To ensure that all food served is of a high quality and standard, mindful of portion control, meal content and correct temperatures
- To serve and present meals and beverages in a friendly and courteous manner at all times, promoting a warm friendly atmosphere, referring any complaints immediately to a senior member of the catering team
- To undertake temperature monitoring, completing relevant documentation as and when required
- To wash and dry kitchen pots / utensils / kitchen equipment, storing appropriately
- To maintain the highest levels of cleanliness and hygiene within the kitchen area, and ensure the cleaning schedule and daily checks are completed as and when required
- General cleaning duties to the kitchen area (floors, cookers, storage facilities) and deep cleans as and when required
- To keep clean the dining area tables during service times and immediately after service
- To assist in ensuring a high level of health and safety, cleanliness and food hygiene and to ensure that safe working practices are followed. To immediately report any problems or defective equipment to a senior member of the catering team or responsible person
- Assist in stock taking and storage of stock, including deliveries
- Take payment for food, assist in the food signing sheets and deal with food related queries
- To check, fill and clean vending / coffee machines and remove cash as an when required
- The post holder is part of a team whose aim is to promote the general well-being of service users and may be required to work with the client in the kitchen as appropriate
- Ensure compliance with all relevant Food Hygiene & Health and Safety regulations, COSHH regulations and all statutory health and safety requirements, and ensure these are observed by all member of staff and visitors
- Maintain a high standard of personal cleanliness and hygiene and a clean and tidy appearance
- To report any accidents / incidents immediately as per the Constabulary’s Accident procedure and to complete all necessary documents
- To provide a service for out of hours emergency catering provision as and when required and planned operational events out of normal hours
- To use the pool vehicles to transport goods, equipment and foodstuff as directed
- Take an active role in promoting the catering facility including undertaking promotional events
- To attend in house and external training courses as appropriate / required, including on-line training
- To be re responsible for improving your performance by participating in the Professional Development Review (PDR) process with your manager
- To undertake other duties and additional responsibilities which are consistent with the nature, responsibilities and grading as and when required

**Knowledge and Experience**:
Knowledge and experience of working in a busy kitchen environment

Knowledge of current food legislation regarding food hygiene and health and safety in the workplace

Experience in preparing food to meet quality, nutrition and cost

Ability to read and understand written instruction, health and hygiene notices in relation to food preparation, food storage and service delivery
