Head Porter

Spire Cardiff has a vacancy for a highly experienced and motivated Head Porter to lead and manage our Portering Team.

This is a pivotal role ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of the Portering service across the hospital. You will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the Portering team, maintain high standard and supporting a culture of excellence in patient care.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- To supervise and organise the Portering service of the hospital and maintain a disciplined team, through good communication and fair leadership.
- To promote a courteous working relationship with all hospital staff, working closely with nursing staff and Heads of Department.
- To be the waste management lead for the hospital, monitoring collections and carrying out audits as required, as well as training to the Portering team and individual departments.
- Ensure all individual competencies are completed by team, and maintained as appropriate.
- Organising staff rota and basic HR activities
- Hold regular 1:1 and team meetings
- Provide hands on support to the Portering team, with daily duties as required.
- Act as a patient escort throughout the Hospital as required
- Ensure security checks are carried out, and premises are secure before porter on shift is finished evening shift, with relevant records kept
- Operationally maintain the Medical Gas System and rotate cylinder stock.
- Organise collection of samples and drugs from clinical departments and deliver to appropriate areas or destination, following due safety procedures in place, which may include external to Hospital.
- Control of general, clinical and cytotoxic waste in line with corporate and Hospital policy.
- Ensure department compliance with Health and Safety policy and utilise safe systems of work.
- Any other ad hoc duties considered reasonable at the request of line management.

**Who we're looking for**:
**Essential**
- Supervisory experience and working in similar role within a Hospital.
- Hold a full UK driving license.
- Experience in a customer facing environment/role
- Excellent communication and social skills and an open, friendly nature.
- Able to lift heavy items and manoeuvre patient beds/trolleys.
- Experience of medical gas systems

**The post holder will be required to**:

- Drive the hospital vehicle whilst completing some of the duties above and maintain the internal and external condition of the vehicle i.e. clean and tidy.
- Undertake any other reasonable task within the knowledge, skills and ability of the post holder.
- Work shifts that may include days, afternoon and nights, weekends, and bank holidays on a rota system.

**Working Hours: Full Time - 37.5 per week - Days, Afternoons and Nights (as required)**
