We are looking to appoint a Part Time Locum consultant in Palliative Medicine at University College Hospital London (UCLH).

This is a 12 months position and attracts 6.5PAs.

You will be part of a busy proactive and innovative multidisciplinary team providing excellent care to patients and relatives. It is an inspiring and supportive place to work, with plenty of opportunities for education and training and personal development.

Medical consultants within the Service work primarily within a specified clinical area, and in addition to clinical care, are each closely involved with strategic development and service improvement, as well as the advancement of relationships with key colleagues.

The aims of the post are to provide an efficient and responsive clinical service to the inpatients requiring supportive and palliative care; to develop relationships and improve the care of patients a mainly in the areas of cancer and ITU and provide cross clinical cover within other areas of the hospital. All DCC is within the inpatient setting.

The post includes participation in the on call rota (1 in 8) - 7 days a week 9 am
- 8pm

We are part of the CNWL Palliative Care Service, that also provides palliative care to the community area of Islington and South Camden.

There is a well established group of consultants that work within that team that would provide support and mentoring for the post holder.
- Provide clinical care to patients within UCLH. The post holder will work closely with the Clinical Nurse Specialists and other colleagues in the team, as well as other colleagues within the wider service and throughout the Trust, and liaise with professionals within the community as needed, such as GPs, community palliative care teams and community nurses.
- Provide clinical cross cover within other areas of UCLH and occasionally the community teams as needed.
- Work closely with the clinical lead for the service, as well as the leads for the surgery & cancer, medicine, and specialist hospital boards, and the community team.
- Represent Palliative Care at relevant clinical and strategic meetings (e.g. UCLH Pain Steering Group)
- Attend and contribute to the inpatient specialist palliative care MDT meeting each week (rotational chair).
- Share the clinical leadership with colleagues within the UCLH & HCA Team depending on demand.
- Actively contribute to the Integrated Care Programme agenda, working closely with relevant clinicians within the Surgery and Cancer Board to optimise patient care, communication and use of hospital beds.
