**Summary**:

- The Policy and Engagement Officer is responsible for undertaking and supporting effective engagement with all the IOPC’s stakeholders ranging from government bodies and the police service to community and special interest groups. - Your role
- The Policy and Engagement Officer is responsible for undertaking and supporting effective engagement with all the IOPC’s stakeholders ranging from government bodies and the police service to community and special interest groups. The post is also responsible for using evidence from this engagement and other sources to develop and implement strategies and policies to improve the work of the IOPC and the complaints system.
- The permanent Policy and Engagement Officer post will have a focus on operational policy development. Of the four fixed term roles, two will be focused on thematic work in relation to violence against women and girls and two will carry out a range of general policy and engagement activities which may cover any area of the IOPC’s work.
- MAIN DUTIES- Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders including special interest and community stakeholders, representing the IOPC at external forums where appropriate
- Support senior staff in their strategic engagement with key national stakeholders
- Under the direction of the Policy & Engagement Manager, work with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement strategies, policies, plans and other initiatives to improve the work of the IOPC and the wider police complaints system
- Provide support to operations in developing and implementing operational policy and other changes to operational practice
- Provide advice to internal and external stakeholders at all levels
- Contribute to the annual strategic planning process by using evidence to inform strategic thinking about the organisation’s aims and strategic priorities
- Undertake systematic horizon scanning and identify and recommend actions in response
- Identify outcomes in relation to the IOPC’s agreed policy project and watching brief areas and develop and implement plans to achieve these outcomes, including through work with the relevant Subject Matter Network where one exists
- Ensure trends and issues from oversight and confidence work and from IOPC casework and investigations are identified and used to inform the development of the IOPC’s work
- Support and advise on the development of organisational learning recommendations, including ensuring that they are consistent with organisational positions
- Develop and maintain relationships with key internal stakeholders at all levels including Directors and operational staff
- Manage and deliver projects and other strands of work including carrying out Equality Impact Assessments and Data Protection Impact Assessments where appropriate and reporting to internal forums such as Management Board
- The job will require some travel to other IOPC offices and external meetings
