West Sussex Alternative Provision College (WSAPC) is an educational establishment based across the county on seven separate sites, providing education for pupils whom are permanently excluded, at risk of exclusion or too ill to attend school. Our ethos is to provide FOCUS (Future, Opportunities:, Curriculum, Us, School) for our pupils to re-engage them in their learning and support re-integration to mainstream provision.

The**Pastoral HLTA plays a key role in ensuring a calm, safe, and supportive environment that enables effective teaching and learning by actively managing behaviour, safeguarding concerns, and emotional wellbeing throughout the school day. The role is instrumental in upholding the school’s ethos of inclusion and trauma-informed practice and act as a daily behavioural lead, enabling teaching staff to focus on delivering high-quality education.

Job Details
- **Pastoral Sessions**
- Carry our Pastoral Assessments to determine level of need, build trust, identify concerns, and support behaviour and wellbeing goals.
- Deliver regular 1:1 sessions tailored to individual pupil needs.
- Keep accurate, confidential records of all sessions and actions taken
- Share relevant insights with key staff where appropriate.
- Be the owner of Pastoral Support Plan and Pupil Passport on Edukey
- **Reintegration to Mainstream**
- Coordinate and support the reintegration process for pupils transitioning back to mainstream or other educational settings including Post 16.
- Build positive relationships with receiving schools and families to ensure smooth transitions.
- Prepare pupils through tailored sessions focusing on readiness, routines, and expectations.
- Facilite and lead reintegration meetings and reviews ensuring all plans and supporting paperwork are clearly communicated and followed
- Support pupils out on reintegration for the duration of their DOS registration
- Maintain Bromcom with EPL data
- Be the owner of Pastoral Support Plans on Edukey
- **Safeguarding and DSL Responsibilities**
- Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding practice at all times.
- As ADSL actively participate in weekly safeguarding meetings taking responsibility for action, follow up and escalation where appropriate.
- Attend and contribute to safeguarding meetings and strategy discussions as required.
- Maintain current DSL training and promote a safeguarding-first culture.
- **Wellbeing and Behaviour Support**
- Be proactive in identifying and responding to pupils’ emotional and behavioural needs.
- Support pupils to regulate emotions using trauma-informed and relational strategies.
- Maintain strong, visible pastoral presence throughout the day, especially during transition and unstructured times.
- Collaborate with teaching staff to implement and review behaviour support plans.
- Model regulation and de-escalation strategies across the centres.
- **Administrative Duties**
- Complete timely and accurate records of all pastoral work (e.g. contact logs, session notes, reports).
- Contribute to planning and documentation for reviews, reintegration, and multi-agency meetings.
- Use EduKey (e.g. Provision Map, Pastoral Support Plans) consistently to record and review interventions, actions, and pupil information.
- Oversee the Your Space Counselling Hours and use of time including pupils referred for therapy sessions.
- Create and maintain the pupil Passport, Pastoral Plan and Reintegration plan in Edukey

They work collaboratively with staff, pupils, families, and external professionals to promote positive outcomes and sustain a culture of safety and trust.

**Professional Knowledge and Understanding**

The Pastoral Lead maintains an in-depth understanding of trauma-informed approaches, attachment needs, and behaviour as communication. You will hold current DSL training and have a strong working knowledge of child protection and safeguarding procedures. You will understand the impact of adverse childhood experiences and are able to implement support strategies tailored to individual pupils and demonstrate a clear understanding of reintegration processes and multi-agency working.

**Professional Skills**

The Pastoral Lead delivers regular 1:1 sessions that build trust, support emotional regulation, and address behavioural challenges.
