We are working with a prestigious SEN school in Peckham, South East London, and they are looking to hire a Teaching Assistant to support their children and young people with special needs, particularly with Autism/ASC, complex needs, Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Profound Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). Some pupils have Speech and Language Communication Needs (SLCN) or may be non-verbal and you will be using alternative communication system such as PECS and Makaton.

**Requirements**:

- Has experience working with children and young people with special needs, particularly with Autism/ASC, complex needs, Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD, and Profound Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
- A positive, proactive and patient individual who has a can-do attitude and is willing to learn
- A team player and has great communication skills
- Being able to build up good working relationships with students and staff

**Main Responsibilities**:

- Assisting children with Autism/ASC, complex needs, SLD, and PMLD
- Assisting the class teacher with planning, preparing and delivering learning activities as well as monitoring and assessing children’s achievement and progress
- Actively involved in a wide range of activities, promoting the physical, cognitive, cultural, social and emotional wellbeing of the pupils
- Actively interacting with children through play-based and sensory related activities

Students are supported by a multidisciplinary team including Physiotherapists, Art Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language Therapists. Some students may also have physical disabilities and are wheelchair users. As a Teaching Assistant, Personal Care (feeding and toileting) and hydrotherapy are required as this is a part of the job.
