**Principal Scientist - Protein Sciences**

**Location - Oxfordshire**

Our client is a leading Pharmaceutical CRO based in Oxfordshire and due to company and department growth they are now seeking an experienced Principal Scientist within their Protein Sciences division.

The suitable applicant will work on Protein Engineering projects supporting a range of different targets for biochemical, biophysical and structural studies.

**The role**:
As a Principal Scientist you will be responsible for driving the growth of the department through:

- Independently designs routes and considers risk mitigation strategies for the directed evolution of proteins; able to develop strategies for process optimisation and scale up to accomplish project goals
- Adapting scientific knowledge to resolve problems encountered in achieving defined goals
- Supporting a project team by conducting experiments with defined, agreed objectives, and timelines

**Suitable applicants will have experience with**:

- Experience with directed evolution techniques providing solutions for drug discovery programs
- Experience working with protein structure and function and confident with the use of PyMOL or Coot
- Well-versed in expression construct design and engineering to successfully express proteins destined for biochemical, biophysical, and structural studies Experience or knowledge in chemo-enzymatic synthesis and enzyme kinetics would be an advantage
- Knowledgeable in prokaryotic and eukaryotic expression vectors and be experienced in their manipulation
- Understanding of enzyme mechanisms and enzyme kinetics
- Familiarity with X-ray crystallography and/or cryo-EM and biophysical studies (SPR, mass spectrometry)
- Good organisational and time management skills
- Good verbal communication skills
- Ability to maintain excellent laboratory records
- Computer proficiency
