Planning Officer

**Purpose of the job**
2. To work in a team of enforcement planners carrying out enforcement investigations and other planning tasks and be responsible for the achieving the highest quality outcomes, focused on the needs of clients including the Cabinet, committees, steering groups, other council bodies and elected members.
**Principal accountabilities**
4. To make recommendations regarding the enforcement of planning control, including serving formal notices, plus development management, planning policy and other related planning projects and activities that will have far reaching and lasting effects on the development of the borough and which have significant impacts on the local environment, economy and community.
The postholder will advise on how to act where breaches of planning control are found, with the potential to impact on the development value of land in the borough, the amount of development that can take place, the delivery of council priorities such as affordable housing and this advice will have major environmental impacts.
5. To provide advice on the statutory planning process, particularly related to planning enforcement, reaching the highest standards of clarity and accuracy and to ensure that development decisions are monitored and reported to demonstrate that it is effective in achieving the council’s aims. The post holder will provide advice, particularly related to planning enforcement, with the potential to have major impacts on the legal, reputational and financial risks faced by the council including judicial review.
6. To support team working with other professional staff on enforcement and planning decisions, policy and projects and cooperate with all relevant colleagues and partner organisations and in accordance with all relevant procedures.
**Knowledge**
An understanding of how enforcement services are
provided in a Local Government context and political awareness
An in-depth understanding of how planning enforcement contributes to the environmental quality of the borough, including its physical and social regeneration.
**Experience**
Experience of planning enforcement in a major city context
Achievement of results to planned deadlines requiring complex technical work.
Preparation of reports recommending action of planning enforcement investigations and other planning tasks
**Job Types**: Full-time, Temp to perm

**Salary**: £25.00-£26.00 per hour
