**Team Overview**
Ofcom is the regulator for the communications services that we use and rely on each day.
Protecting consumers is at the heart of what we do. We make sure people get the best from their broadband, home phone and mobile services, as well as keeping an eye on TV and radio. We also oversee the universal postal service, look after the airwaves usedby wireless devices, play a key part in making sure people across the UK can rely on strong and secure networks, and also help to make sure people don’t get scammed and are protected from bad practices. We have recently taken on the regulation of video-sharingplatforms and an enhanced role in network security, and are preparing for a new role in protecting people from online harms.

The legal team is central to Ofcom. We aim to provide first-class, proactive, agile, empowering and focused legal advice and support to all groups within Ofcom to assist in the creation and implementation of communications policy. The team consists of approximately50 qualified lawyers, ranging from associate level to senior management, with diverse experience and expertise.
**Purpose of the Role**
**Key responsibilities**
- Dealing with a portfolio of legal work across diverse projects in a range of sectors
- Developing expertise in new areas, including advising on areas of law that are new to you (which may include media, telecommunications and competition law), and learning about new industry sectors and technologies
- Building strong internal relationships to work effectively as part of cross-functional, multi-disciplinary teams including policy advisors, economists, accountants and technical specialists
- Liaising with external stakeholders, including central government, other regulators and regulated industries
- Inputting to Ofcom’s policy and programmatic work
- Addressing matters which raise new and significant points of law, including through litigation
- Working with other lawyers in the team (with support from a legal peer reviewer and/or senior legal colleagues) to assess and resolve legal risk and to ensure a joined-up approach across Ofcom’s workload
**Skills, Knowledge and experience**
- Excellent communications skills, enabling you to present your analysis clearly in writing and orally
- Strong analytical skills, with an ability to interpret and advise on the law, think strategically and creatively to solve problems, and to identify and manage legal risks
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well in multi-disciplinary teams through collaboration and where appropriate, constructive challenge of other experts’ advice in order to drive projects to completion
- Self-motivated and able to work as part of a team of lawyers
- Effective time management skills, juggling and prioritising your work across a range of matters

Qualified lawyer (solicitor, barrister or equivalent )
