**Summary**:
The Strategic Estates (SE) team aims to deliver a comfortable, safe and efficient environment for Members, their staff and staff of the House to work in; as well as provide a welcoming and functional environment for all visitors to the House of Commons. The department is also responsible for looking after and managing buildings, capital projects and significant assets on the Parliamentary Estate, which itself forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The Curator of the Architectural Fabric Collection (AFC) sits in the Heritage Collections Team (HCT) within Strategic Estates (SE). The HCT are responsible for the professional management of three collections of national and international importance: the Parliamentary Art Collection, the Historic Furniture and Decorative Arts Collection, and the Architectural Fabric Collection. This Team provides a bicameral service to the House of Commons and the House of Lords, and is responsible for all aspects of strategy, display, collections management, care and conservation, technical and procedural standards, documentation, loans and interpretation.
**Job description**:
This is a new role within the Heritage Collections Team, reporting to the Heritage Lead for Collections Storage, Standards and Management. The postholder will provide specialist, professional knowledge. They will lead on the management, care, conservation, documentation, access, and interpretation of the Architectural Fabric Collection, including cataloguing, research and promotion of the Collection. They will work closely and collaboratively with colleagues in the Parliamentary Architecture and Heritage Team as well as within the Parliamentary Heritage Collections Team and the R&R Programme Team.
**Responsibilities**:
- Heritage professional with collections care knowledge and significant experience of working in a public sector museum, art gallery or historic house, ideally in connection with industrial or social history collections.
- Thorough, analytical and highly organised with good time management skills and the ability to manage multiple workstreams efficiently and to a high standard. Ability to problem-solve and react to a fast-paced environment in a dynamic and positive way.
- Knowledge of the standards and processes underpinning collections care and management across a wide range of heritage object types, and including experience of data collection, documentation and use of collections management systems, as well as a passion for the care of architectural or industrial collections.
- Experience of working on object moves and collection audits and of the associated work required, including a clear understanding and knowledge of the assessment and mitigation of risks to heritage assets.
- Good research skills and evidence of communicating collections and object information to diverse and non-specialist audiences. Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal tactfully and confidently with people at all levels upholding the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Well-developed organisational and project management skills and experience, including drafting method statements, risk assessments, specifications and contract documentation
