Due to continued growth, we have a great opportunity for an Electrical Controlling Authorised Person to join the Estates Utilities Infrastructure Team at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL).

The Electrical Controlling Authorised Person is responsible for the day-to-day safe, and effective, operation and control of the electrical utilities network and fixed wiring systems, and their associated assets at three STFC sites: RAL, Chilbolton Observatory and The Cosener’s House. These system types include, but are not limited to:

- Electrical High Voltage network
- Electrical Low Voltage network
- Stand-by power assets (UPS/Generators)

**Role Responsibilities**
- To be responsible for the practical implementation and operation of the safe system of work for which they are appointed:

- Where more than one Authorised Person is nominated, the Coordinating Authorised Person is responsible for the coordination of all AP duties.
- Responsibility for planning and supervising maintenance to support the safe and reliable operation of the site electrical distribution network at both high voltage and low voltage; safeguarding the integrity and upkeep of the site electrical power network.
- Ensuring that all associated work carried out on STFC’s estate is completed in a safe, effective and professional manner, and that all current safety and technical legislation is adhered to.

**Essential shortlisting criteria**
- Formal technical training/apprenticeship in suitable discipline (City & Guilds 3 or equivalent).
- Demonstrate practical experience in the switching and management of H.V. and L.V. distribution systems in the context of a large and complex estate.
- Demonstrable experience in carrying out an Electrical Authorised Persons role - including the issuing and control of permits/keys relating to safe systems of work and service isolations
- Be able to explain standard safe systems of work for isolations and distribution switching
- Good knowledge and understanding of safety legislation.
