The Brighton Youth Advice Centre (YAC) is a busy, support and advice service that has been delivering excellent services to young people across the city for 30 years. Working to the Youth Information, Advice and Counselling Services (YIACS) model, the Brighton YAC is the single point of access for homelessness advice for 16-15-year-olds. The YAC also hosts other YMCA DLG services such as family mediation and tenancy support, as well as their general advice provision, offering support and advice on a range of topics including sexual health, emotional health and wellbeing, and debt and benefits.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a Brighton and Hove City Council commissioned service working with 14-25 year olds who are at risk of homelessness due to conflict or relationship breakdown in the family home. The Family Mediation Team provide a safe space to talk through issues with a trained mediator and supporting and improving the breakdown of relationships has proven to be extremely successful in preventing youth homelessness.

You will be part of a busy, energetic team delivering innovative frontline services to young people in the city. Leading a small team in the wider Youth Advice Centre you will work closely with the Housing Advice team to provide a homelessness prevention pathway. You will work directly with young people and their families as well as line managing two Family Mediators, leading the team in delivering a high-quality service that enables clients to overcome the barriers they face and manage the difficulties they experience. Providing face-to-face mediation sessions to young people and their families you must offer a broad range of interventions and therapeutic techniques. You will provide conflict resolution support with young people presenting at the Youth Advice Centre as homeless and will provide parenting support and guidance.

**This role is based on site at the YAC in Brighton - working hours will be between Monday to Friday 9am-5pm, specific days and hours can be discussed at interview**

You will be a confident people manager who thrives in a busy team and a skilled and experienced qualified mediator. Ideally you will have experience of working with vulnerable young people and their families and a good understanding of a range of appropriate therapeutic intervention models. You will have a robust understanding of both child and adult safeguarding legislation and practice.

**YMCA DLG requires all staff and volunteers to be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults and to respond proactively to safeguarding concerns. Successful applicants are required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure (including the Children’s barred list and the Adults’ barred list)** **via the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
