Transport Supervisor

Job Title: **Transport Supervisor** **Location**: **Basildon** Hours of work **Tuesday to Saturday - 04.00 to 13.00** **Role Purpose**: Day to day leadership of drivers at Basildon, ensuring a safe and compliant environment, despatching consignments to the customers on time in full to fulfil the delivery time requirements at the agreed cost. Challenge inefficiency and process loss at every opportunity; establishing a team culture of continuous improvement and unrelenting pursuit of performance excellence. Ensuring 100% delivery performance on daily basis. Key Responsibility Health and Safety - Lead a Health and Safety culture within despatch; sets site safety best practices by demonstrating zero tolerance behaviour, continually challenging and raising Safety standards. - Manage the department Safety dashboard to meet or exceed targets - Eliminate risk to the employees, products and environment through rigorous safety and accident investigations and high-quality current risk assessments **Quality** - Lead a Compliance culture within despatch and transport; Act as a role model for company quality values by continually raising standards. - Manage the Transport Quality dashboard to meet or exceed targets. - Manage all non-conformances raised on internal / external audits, ensure closure of those non-conformances by set due dates. - Ensure all team members adhere to SOP’s and comply with their individual responsibilities for GDP, to ensure there are no deficiencies - Lead team towards "Always Audit Ready" establishing a culture of compliance where; - Investigate undelivered parcels - Transport records are accurately completed in real time to facilitate actions that allow the approval of documentation as required. - Ensure drivers adhere to vehicle compliance standards **People** - Enforce the site 'Respect & Dignity Charter’ in your everyday engagement with all staff on site, ensuring that your Core Behaviours match the expectations. - Manage and motivate the transport team to deliver on time in full; - Carry Return To Work in the absence of the Transport Manager **Delivery** - Proactively manage and embrace change, leading in areas of: Health & Safety, People, openly share knowledge with colleagues. - Lead a culture of fact and data-based decision making within the Transport department; - Lead and managing resources and ensuring issue resolution, to ensure daily targets are achieved to customer delivery. - Ensure team consistently challenges losses within the area, relentlessly pursuing opportunities to recover or mitigate loss. - Work collaboratively with up and down-stream customers to deliver the daily targets. - Lead the team to delivery 100% schedule Adherence o **Cost** - Lead reduction of waste and variation in the process, own the performance change process. - Recommend improvements to the transport process and SOP’s to increase process efficiency and effectiveness. - Embrace continuous improvement activities. - Effectively manage all planned and unplanned lost time events to optimise delivery performance - Effectively manage the use of all transport resources (Vehicles, labour,). - Active involvement in all initiatives relating to area performance improvement - Manage teams to minimise delays with delivery of consignments - Manage Vehicle reliability through effective and timely turnarounds vehicle maintenance Schedule - Reporting any vehicle damage/ vehicle accidents to the transport manager **Continuous Improvement** - Take the lead in implementing lean distribution initiatives and making them a part of the departments culture by understanding, supporting and facilitating work standardisation, visual management and root cause analysis. - Lead departmental CI improvement initiative’s, aligned to under performance of any departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s). **Other duties** - Cover routes if required - Any other duties depending on business needs **Direct reports** No direct reports **Experience required** - Operational experience in a Transport / Despatch environment - Knowledge of a despatching ideal - Supervision/management experience ideal Personal Attributes: - Effective communicator - Proactive - Organised - Flexible - Full UK driving license
