**Summary**:
The Ministry of Defence’s Directorate of Defence Communications (DDC) is recruiting a Communications Officer to work in the Campaigns team on the Global Operations desk.

You will be part of a high-profile team that works on the Governments highest priorities. From the UK’s response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, to UN peacekeeping deployments in Africa, our work focuses on Defence’s impact in the world.

There is a wide variety of training and development on offer within the team from leadership and management to technical content creation skills. You will be proactively encouraged to take up Continual Professional Development opportunities and have a development plan.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

**Job description**:
The Global Operations desk in the Campaigns Team is responsible for translating complex military operations and foreign policy into easy-to-digest communications activity for national and international audiences. We deliver long-term communications efforts that demonstrate how the UK Armed Forces’ work overseas helps to keep Britain safe.

You will have a keen interest in current affairs be able to to respond to emerging issues with the ability to keep a cool head in a crisis. You will be able to manage multiple projects, stakeholder needs and deadlines concurrently with a flair for solving problems creatively.

It is possible you will be asked to undergo short-term detached duty on operations overseas. The UK Armed Forces deploys around to globe to all climates and conditions. Therefore, upon appointment you may be asked to undergo a medical and Hostile Environment training to be deployed on operations.

Outside of core business, staff are encouraged to take part in regular training and development as well as social and networking events across defence and Government. There is a free gym on site with access to a staff restaurant, shop and coffee shop.

**Responsibilities**:
You may be asked to:

- Plan and deliver communications activity across owned and earned media, including social media, film, radio, television, and print.
- Plan and manage media facilities and complex visits to operational theatres overseas and in the UK.
- Manage a wide and complex stakeholder network across multiple continents and time zones.
- Identify and media mind case studies from across Defence to deliver key campaign messaging.
- Brief and pitch opportunities to international, national and regional media outlets.
- Commission and create innovative and engaging content for Ministry of Defence channels, including written pieces, artwork, video and photography.
- Provide communications advice on your portfolio to ministers, military chiefs, senior officials, special advisers and communications colleagues.
- You will use research and insight to inform your communications plans and evaluate your results in co-operation with the directorate’s Research, Insight and Evaluation team.

You will also be required to take part in the MoD News Desk's out-of-hours duty rota where you will deal with media enquiries across Defence, for which an allowance is paid.

We offer hybrid working with a combination of office based and home working. You may be asked to travel to other MOD locations for work in the UK and overseas.
