The post holder will be a senior member of the team in the capacity of Deputy Matron/Sister and will provide support and advice alongside effective leadership to a specified clinical team. This will be achieved by ensuring the provision of high quality safe and effective care. In addition, the post holder will provide direct clinical nursing care and will deputise in the absence of the Ward Matron As a deputy matron, you will be expected to embrace the core values of the role within the organisation with regards to professionalism, openness and honesty. You will be expected to support the ward matron to oversee and guide junior colleagues to provide enhanced care delivery to patients within the acute medical/gastroenterology ward environment. As a deputy matron you will maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, and support colleagues to develop professionally within their roles, by ensuring essential training is maintained and appraisals and 1:1 meetings are continued professionally As a deputy ward matron you will remain professional within your approach to leading staff and the ward, and act with highly integrity at all times, this element will encompass undertaking clinical audits, monitoring and providing feedback outcomes to assist in developing, improving and enhancing clinical care delivery, and the ward environment Within the deputy matron role, you will be expected to undertake allocating duties via the health roster system, attend sickness review meetings and deputise in the absence of the ward matron. We recruit for values and "Together we are North Tees & Hartlepool" - Provides leadership and direction to the nursing team to assure all staff fulfill their roles effectively. - Actively participates in appraisal, training, facilitation, professional development planning and clinical supervision to support growth and development of team and self ensuring the delivery of a high standard of care. - To actively engage in all aspects of clinical governance, participate in audits, research and change projects to improve quality and operational service. - Maintain effective staff rota’s using MAPS, taking into account skill mix and budget under the supervision of the Matron/Senior clinical Matron - Ensure effective communication takes place by regular documented team meetings incorporating new policies and guidelines into practice. - Resolve conflict using a range of problem solving styles. - Deputise in the absence of the Band 7 Matron. - Improve practice and policies by means of audit standards within the department. - Organise, co-ordinate and monitor all educational and staff development activities and meetings in collaboration with the Band 7 Matron and other team members. - Demonstration of regular formal evaluation of the team and being able to make changes were appropriate to improve quality. - Monitor patient and family satisfaction. - Assist in the development of guidelines and protocols identifying specific structure with research and evidence based rationale. - Influence the development of new services and quality improvement programmes delivering a patient centered style of practice that promotes and reflects the values of the Trust. - Independently deliver patient care to a defined group of patients from multicultural backgrounds and spanning all age ranges. - Adhere to The Code (NMC 2008) maintaining patient confidentiality at all times - To participate in the department’s recruitment and retention in conjunction with the Matron. - Pursues both formal and informal concerns raised by patients and their families and ensures these are resolved efficiently and effectively. - Ensures Nursing Staff have adequate support to enable them to focus on their core responsibilities of patient care. - Participate in the development of nursing/midwifery through Trust wide forums to contribute to the wider agenda. - Oversee the implementation of statutory requirements e.g. Health and Safety within the Directorate - Ensure the implementation of policies / procedures within sphere of responsibility control of Infection - Be aware of, and comply with, all Trust
