Colchester Hospital has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our caring, supportive, and compassionate theatre teams as a Theatre Orderly. This is an amazing opportunity to support patients through their theatre journey; working within the theatre teams to ensure the patient experience is positive, safe, quality focused and individualised.
At Colchester we have 10 In Patient Theatres operating from 2 theatre suites; one focusing on Elective Orthopaedic, Urology & Gynecological specialties & the other on Emergency, Laparoscopic & ENT surgery. In Patient theatres support a 24hours a day, 7 days a week activity profile.
In this post you will support the theatre staff in making the theatres safe, run efficiently and a pleasant environment for our patients and staff.

- Assisting the qualified staff within the department, preparing, cleaning and maintaining theatres, lay up rooms, scrub rooms and sluices for lists and emergencies
- Disposal of soiled linen and rubbish
- Cleaning theatres and associated equipment, furniture and items.
- Transporting patients to and from theatres, including transferring and positioning of the patients
- When required receive and take telephone calls and pass on messages to appropriate personnel
- Collection of Theatre equipment from wards / departments
- Transfer specimens to Pathology and collection of blood from blood banks
- Preparation of an area for deceased patients
- Assisting with the general stocking of the theatre area.
