Roles and Responsibilities To provide, to a high standard, the full range of specialist diagnostic, treatment and care to patients requiring urology services, as outlined in the proposed programme To organise, manage and be responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of patients in the Somerset Urology Service Except in emergencies, or where otherwise agreed with your manager, to be responsible for fulfilling the duties and responsibilities and undertaking the Programmed Activities set out in the Job Plan, as reviewed from time to time Responsibility for the associated duties set out in of the Terms and Conditions The purpose of including agreed personal objectives in the Job Plan is to set out in clear and transparent terms what you and your clinical manager have agreed should reasonably be achieved in the year in question. These objectives are not contractually binding in themselves, but you have a duty to make all reasonable efforts to achieve them To provide, with consultant colleagues (as appropriate), a service in the specialty to the hospitals so designated with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness Locums are not normally employed to cover the absence of consultants who are away on leave. The number of consultants who are away on leave at any one time will be agreed in line with the Trust specialty policy. During the absence of colleagues on leave, Consultants are expected to provide agreed levels of cover Where you wish to seek agreement to have External Duties included in your Job Plan, you must notify your clinical manager in advance.
Scheduling of such duties will be by agreement between you and your clinical manager You will be required to travel between sites i.e. YDH and MPH, including when on-call as well as some community hospital activity Where emergency work takes place at regular and predictable times, your clinical manager will seek to schedule it as part of the Programmed Activities in your Job Plan schedule. You will also be required to participate in an on-call rota to respond to less predictable emergencies The Trust will provide secretarial support and an adequately equipped office, including IT facilities To provide a general Urology service, in collaboration with other multidisciplinary medical, nursing, technical staff and other staff Teaching of Junior Staff Medical Students, APH and other professionals To provide supervision and training to Junior Hospital Doctors To participate in clinical audit, evidence--based practice and Clinical Governance within the Department To participate actively in continuing professional development (CPD). Other Duties/Responsibilities Infection Control - It is the responsibility of all staff to familiarise themselves with, and adhere to, current policy in relation to the prevention of the spread of infection and the wearing of uniforms.
Clinical Audit - The appointee will be expected to contribute to the development and reporting of Clinical Quality Standards. As such you will actively participate in initiating and supervising audits related to your sub
- speciality, liaising with the audit speciality Lead Consultant and gaining approval from the Clinical Effectiveness Committee. Quality Improvement -- You will be encouraged to participate in quality improvement projects to support the ongoing development of the department. This is supported by the hospital successful Quality Improvement team, who can provide direct support for projects as well as running a programme of Quality Improvement education activities.
Clinical Governance - All clinical staff are accountable and responsible for their own clinical competence and should limit their actions to those for which they are deemed competent. Clinical staff are also required to comply with the requirements of their professional organisations regarding supervision. Administration/Budgetary responsibilities - Responsibility for undertaking the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the administration of the department. Locums are not normally employed to cover the absence of consultants who are away on leave.
In addition, they will be expected to complete mandatory annual update training.
