Associate Transfusion Practitioner

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Associate Transfusion Practitioner to support the ongoing development of transfusion practice within East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.

The post serves 2 acute hospital sites and community hospitals. Under the supervision of the lead Transfusion Practitioner, you will be responsible for providing advice to clinical staff in all aspects of safe, appropriate and effective transfusion to ensure that patient care and experience is optimum. This will be achieved by developing practice in line with national and local protocols through training & education, policy development and investigation of untoward incidents.

The successful applicant would be a registered practitioner from aNursing or Biomedical Science background
- As a registered nursing practitioner with relevant post-registration experience, we would look for you to demonstrate evidence of excellent communication and presentation skills, evidence of leading a team and an interest in training and assessment of competencies.
- As a registered Biomedical Scientist with relevant post registration experience, we would look for you to demonstrate specialist knowledge of laboratory transfusion practice evidenced by IBMS Specialist Portfolio and/or transfusion specific post-registration qualification.
- Promote safe and appropriate use of blood components.
- Provide support and education for all clinical and non-clinical staff involved in the transfusion pathway to include collection, venous sampling and administration of blood components and assessment of these competencies.
- Undertake audits.
- Responsible for reporting and investigating non-conformance regarding traceability, errors and incidences within the transfusion pathway.
- Undertake root cause analyses of incidences.
