**Do you want to work for a company whose purpose is to improve society by considering social outcomes, and to transform businesses, communities, and opportunities for its employees? Mott MacDonald is a global consultancy whose people do exactly that.**
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced, qualified and enthusiastic Chartered Engineer to join our unique award winning Light Rapid Transit team in Northern England. This opportunity is within our market leading team of more than 20 staff dedicated to light rapid transit, including light rail, bus rapid transit, tram-train and personal rapid transit, and forming part of a global technical practice.
Appointed by the Division General Manager and reporting to the Principal Account Leader and team leader, the Project Principal provides oversight, independent of the project team, for single or multiple projects, ensuring that the project is delivered successfully for the client and for Mott MacDonald.
Successful technical delivery and maintenance of trust between Client and the company is key to commercial and financial success for Mott MacDonald. The Project Principal oversees one or several Project Managers, challenging PMs and Mott MacDonald management as well as mentoring and coaching as necessary with the prime aim of ensuring the projects are able to deliver a successful outcome.
Key Accountabilities:
Project Principals are ultimately accountable for the successful completion of all projects under their oversight. Success means commercial, financial, technical success and realisation of client benefits agreed at WIN stage. Broken down it means:
- Accountable for commercial success. This means ensuring contract terms and risk mitigations from WIN are put into practice; that terms and risk are challenged during WIN to ensure project is feasible.
- Accountable for financial success. This means challenging and supporting the PM to fight for sufficient resources to deliver and challenging interventions from P&L owners which reduce the ability to deliver.
- Accountable for client satisfaction. This means supporting the PM to ensure that suitably skilled staff are made available by the GMs and Resourcing Managers and that action is taken to resolve significant relationship or issues of trust. It means managing the tension between internal and external needs.
- Ultimately accountable for Health, Safety and Welfare. This means working to Mott MacDonald’s global standards and reviewing Health Safety and Welfare alongside project commercials and risk.
- Key role requirements include:
- Strong problem-solving capabilities that use our services to deliver efficient outcomes for public, regulated and private sector clients, with particularly focus on local authority projects.
- Strong client-centric behaviours and a desire to develop opportunities with clients.
- Knowledge and experience of local authority governance.
- Keep up-to-date with market developments, anticipate market changes and assess opportunities to expand our services.
- Practical experience to be able to participate in or lead meetings with senior stakeholders within the local authority.
- Existing project management experience along with formal qualifications and certifications.
Experience in working in light rapid transit is preferred, though broad experience in the transportation sector experience would also be considered.
If you meet 80% or more of what we’re looking for, please still apply. We understand not everyone will meet all the requirements, but you might have skills we didn’t know we need.
