Learning Support Assistant

Protocol Education are working with a secondary school in East Grinstead who are looking for a Learning Support Assistant to start with them as soon as possible. This is on a long term or supply basis.

The role of a Learning Support Assistant is to provide academic and pastoral support so that any student with Special Educational Needs is able to integrate as fully as possible in the activities generally undertaken by other students. You will carry out specific strategies to assist the student’s development, under the direction of the class teacher or Key Support Teacher.

You will be working with a specific group of Key Students each year and have an awareness of there student’s difficulties. You will be supported to use IEP’s/IBP’s and the SEIM’s Register as a vital source of knowledge. You will then use this knowledge and first hand experience to support these students either in whole class, in small groups or on an individual basis and to help to alleviate their difficulties through appropriate support.

The school has a supportive team of Learning Support Staff who work alongside the Key Support Teachers and SENCO within the school.

You will need to:

- Enjoy working with children and young people
- Ability to work as an active team member, using initiative
- Willingness to work with students who can become frustrated and therefore challenging
- Good organisational skills
- Good basic literacy skills, GCSE’s an advantage although no formal qualifications necessary
- Friendly, warm and professional

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
