**Head of Data Science - FinTech**

I'm currently recruiting on behalf of a leading Manchester founded Financial Technology company. They are a force to be reckoned with in the lending market and are making consumer lending safe, hassle-free and far less likely to land you in any bad financialpositions. They create the technology behind their lending platforms and are truly a data driven company, hence why this is such a vital role for them.

This will be the first true head of Data Science role. They already have various Machine Learning models in production from Data teams gone by, but as it stands existentially, this is a new department you will be expected to head up. You will be in chargeof choosing the direction. You will ultimately work to produce data science tools and products that help customers save money and improve their credit. This is about improving the experience of the user. This is truly a greenfield project and you will be shapingthis from scratch Whether that be producing state of the art NLP models, sentiment analysis models or automating the businesses intelligence, you will be deciding where to go.

This comes down to picking the tools, the people and the products themselves. You will be expected to build the Data Science team to about 6 people over the coming year(s) and will be fully supported by the business to do so. At the core of it, you willhave a deep passion for the scientific method and will definitely have been a Data Scientist in the past. You'll be inheriting a team of Data Engineers and BI Developers, so a lot of the ground work will already be done in terms of data preparation. As forsalary, this role is coming in at £100,000 DOE. There is flex here, but this is the rough budget. In terms of where you will be based, the only ask is that you can come to Manchester every couple of weeks. For the most part, it's a remote position.

**If this might be you**:

- Substantial commercial exp in a Data Science role and demonstrable leadership experience
- Proven exp building out a Data Science function and strong product ownership skills
- Excellent communication skills w/ client, stakeholder and wider business leadership interaction
- Strong knowledge of Machine Learning models, Advanced Statistics and Analytics
- Ability to guide Data Science teams from R&D to Production engineering and deployment of ML models
