Specialist Safeguarding Practitioner

We have an exciting opportunity for a band 7 specialist safeguarding practitioner to join the North Bristol NHS Trust safeguarding team.
The post holder will work as part of a friendly team and be a point of contact for specialist safeguarding advice and guidance to NBT staff based on in-depth knowledge of related legislative and statutory requirements, acting as a specialist in this area.
The Specialist Safeguarding Practitioner role carries duties and responsibilities under the new Liberty Protection Safeguards.
The successful applicant will be an experienced professional who has a clear understanding of all the legal frameworks underpinning safeguarding practice (adults and children), and has experience of working in health and social care settings in a safeguarding role or within a complex health/social care setting.
You will be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to provide specialist support and guidance to all colleagues.
Under the direction of the Head of Integrated Safeguarding and Deputy Head of Integrated Safeguarding, it will be the responsibility of the specialist safeguarding practitioner to ensure thorough and clear administrative processes around day to day safeguarding activity including advice, data collection, safeguarding contact reviews and reporting.
To manage a robust policy framework in relation to legislation, national policy and local guidance with support from the named nurses for adult and children.
The specialist safeguarding practitioner will provide regular and consistent advice around safeguarding training requirements and will be responsible for delivering the training in conjunction with the named nurses and trust training lead.
The post holder will have practical knowledge around MCA/DoLS and be aware of the change in legislation to Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS) as this role involves implementation and ongoing management and monitoring of the LPS system.

Knowledge
Knowledge and understanding of acute NHS hospital care and principles of quality service.
In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements for the trust relevant to this role.
Good knowledge of legislation appropriate to the role e.g. Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, New Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, Disability Discrimination Act, Children Act, Mental Health Act, Human Rights and the associated Codes of Practice/Draft Codes of Practice.
Knowledge of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulations relating to safeguarding and associated patient safety.
**Skills**:
Proven skills in safeguarding or within a complex health/social care setting.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively across all professional groups, across the primary, secondary interface and interagency.
Effective teaching and facilitation skills.
Excellent IT skills.
Ability to contribute to the writing, implementation and auditing of policies.
Evidence of excellent report writing skills.
Demonstration of Influencing and motivating others and the ability to self-motivate.
Ability to make sound autonomous professional decisions.
Experience
The post holder must hold a current registration with either the NMC, HCPC or GMC.
Qualified to degree level with an equivalent level of experience.
Relevant teaching qualification and experience
Experience of developing and delivering training programmes.
Experience of working in a safeguarding child or adult field.
Evidence of continued professional development.
Experience of developing and maintaining electronic databases.
Management Responsibilities
In conjunction with the Head of Safeguarding and the named nurse for Child Protection ensure that the trust has robust process in place and complies with relevant national legislation and CQC regulations
Analyse complex data and produce reports for the Trust and Local Safeguarding Boards
Under the direction of the Head of Safeguarding and Deputy Head of Safeguarding ensure that systems are in place for ensuring that the trust and staff are confident with the Disability Discrimination and Human Rights Acts
Key responsibility to ensure robust audit and monitoring procedures are in place for inter agency child protection procedures
To support processes to ensure that Independent Mental Capacity Advocates are consulted when required and records of mental capacity assessments are maintained
To have ongoing responsibilities around MCA and LPS implementation and management
Ensure robust review and monitoring of Serious Case Review/Safeguarding Adult Reviews and Domestic Homicide Review action plans
