CNWL NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to have been awarded the contract for the East of England Gambling Service in partnership with Inclusion (Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust).

We are seeking an experienced Family Therapist to join our dynamic new team. The post holder will have the chance to make a significant difference to residents in the East of England and to be part of the development of the first NHS gambling service in this region.

There is a strong outreach/liaison component to the role which will include delivering training and services in other locations across the region

Various working locations and remote working across the East of England.

The purpose of this post is to provide family therapy and carers’ support to clients of the East of England Gambling Clinic, in order to deliver the highest standard of care in line with latest guidelines and standards, Addictions and Trust policies and procedures and statutory frameworks governing patient care in the NHS. Research is a significant element of this clinic and the postholder is required to support research at the clinic. The post holder will be required to provide family psychotherapy services to family members, carers and service users within the East of England Gambling Clinic and co-ordinate the monthly Family & Friends group. They will attend weekly multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings and provide a systemic perspective in case discussions. They will provide support to the team around issues of safeguarding and domestic abuse, and attend relevant Trust and Directorate meetings.

The Addictions Directorate within CNWL Foundation Trust is a large, well-established provider which offers a wide range of specialist NHS drug and alcohol treatment interventions to the diverse and multicultural populations across Central and North West London. Our services include community services, family therapy services, A&E liaison, National Gambling Service and a Club Drug Clinic.

Our substance misuse services are dedicated to helping reduce the harm caused by substance misuse dependency; helping people overcome their dependency on substances and helping clients and their families rebuild their lives and enable recovery. We are committed to working in partnership with other providers and service users in local systems of treatment and recovery.

Clinical Activities

To provide specialist systemic psychotherapy assessments and treatment including care planning to carers, families, couples and individuals referred with relationship and communication problems, including those with complex needs.

To ensure clinical notes are maintained to the agreed standard at all times and that clients are appropriately assessed, admitted, care planned and discharged.

To ensure clients have risk assessments and that risks are actively managed and communicated to relevant parties.

To manage a diary and take responsibility for their own caseload and bookings.

To act as a professional resource to the team.

To take part in weekly MDT and monthly local clinical governance meetings

To discern when it is appropriate to refer to and/or consult with other agencies such as social services, community mental health teams and other specialist agencies.

During the process of treatment, to continuously evaluate treatment/therapy options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual person, couple or family.

To provide specialist advice, guidance and consultation to the East of England Gambling Clinic and other professionals/agencies. This will include working with professional networks involved with complex cases, such as those involved with child protection and self-harm.

To support and maintain pathways around safeguarding and domestic abuse within the clinic.

To communicate and discuss information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients under their care in a skilled and sensitive manner and to monitor and evaluate progress through responding effectively to feedback from members of the client system.

To liaise with and/or provide written reports to other professionals and agencies, such as GPs, Social Services, local treatment services, Schools and to work jointly with such agencies when required.

To work effectively and sensitively with issues of gender, sexuality, disability, class and age.
