**Job description**:

- As a Policy Advisor you will support the CLP Policy Team Leader by providing policy advice and guidance on Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures (as amended).
- Additionally you will work with the team to develop a long-term strategy for the future development of CLP whilst:
- working with government lawyers
- drafting guidance, and updating web pages as required.
- drafting and contributing to responses to official correspondence; MPs letters, ministerial submissions and parliamentary questions.

**Person Specification**
- The ability to plan, monitor and continuously improve fast paced policy delivery.
- Experience of delivering policy options using data, evidence and advice on the needs of those affected by the policy.
- Ability to proactively create, maintain and promote the policy team through active engagement with key stakeholders, responding to developing CLP policy issues, often in complex contexts.
- Confidence using evaluation in the policy process to generate evidence and learning that informs decisions and delivery.
- Experience working effectively as part of a team and working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, drawing on the expertise as required.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, producing concise and accurate briefings, reports and submissions etc.

**Responsibilities**:

- Working with the CLP Policy Team Leader to identify the priority policy areas for CLP
- Reporting to the CLP team leader, the post holder will lead a small sub team which manages national and international CLP policy
- Ensuring delivery of CLP policy development to respond to current and emerging issues
- Manage and deliver the adoption of the revised editions of the United Nations Globally Harmonised System through statutory instruments.
- Overseeing implementation of future changes to the CLP Regulation delivering key priorities in line with government requirements.
- Leading of interventions and responses to work by other government departments that is dependent on CLP
- Building relationships with teams within HSE, other Government Departments, Local Authorities and Devolved Administrations.
- Leading on the engagement of stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely information is collected to inform policy development
- Working closely with the operational CLP policy team, and with other operational and policy teams across HSE to support the development of CLP.
- Identifying gaps in evidence needs to support key policy matters.
