Head of Legacy Administration
**INTERNAL APPLICANTIONS ONLY PLEASE**
Legacies look after c£60m of income for the Trust each year, funds which are critical to help us protect our special places for ever, for everyone but our ambitions don’t stop there. We want to increase that to £100m a year by 2040 and our recent investment in legacy development will build this pipeline of future gifts.
We are looking for a Head of Legacy Administration to lead our Legacy Administration team, with responsibility for the proactive management of the legacies left to the National Trust.
What it's like to work here:Probably not what you think. We work with passionate people in inspiring places and have the opportunity to make a difference every day. We have big ambitions, value creativity and diversity and want to work together in new, dynamic and innovative ways. We look after special places for ever, for everyone. We know the positive impact they have on people’s lives because places matter, to our wellbeing, our spirit and our relationships.
Your contractual location will be our head office in Swindon, however there will be an opportunity to explore and agree hybrid working arrangements which strike the right balance for you and the Trust. Some travel to our head office to meet with the team and stakeholders will be required.
What you'll be doing:This is a role that impacts the largest fundraised income stream for the National Trust. You will be responsible for the strategic direction of the team and managing and optimising legacy income. You will ensure excellent communication with executors and the families of our legators and grow the reputation of the Trust for efficient, impactful and sensitive legacy administration.
In order to achieve this, you will need to fully understand the importance of implementing the right systems and processes to meet compliance requirements. You will ensure the team always delivers best practise and have the confidence to demonstrate your decision-making processes to internal stakeholders to ensure legacies are spent in line with donor’s wishes and legal claims and disputes are managed robustly and sensitively.
- Who we're looking forYou will have significant experience of probate and legacy administration.
- You will be comfortable working under pressure and have detailed knowledge of probate, property and charity law and experience of mediation and dealing with contentious legacy issues.
- You are also a proven leader, and as comfortable with setting strategic direction as dealing with operational issues such as managing budgets, leading high performing teams and building strong stakeholder relationships both internally & externally.
The packageThe National Trust has the motto ‘For everyone, for ever’ at its heart. We’re working hard to create an inclusive culture, where everyone feels they belong. It’s important that our people reflect and represent the diversity of the communities and audiences we serve. We welcome and value difference, so when we say we’re for everyone, we want everyone to be welcome in our teams too.
Wherever you’re from, and whatever your background, we want to hear from you - and it doesn’t matter if you’re jam first, cream first, or even if you don’t like scones at all. Everyone is welcome.
Benefits for working at the National Trust include:
- Flexible working whenever possible
- Free parking at most locations
- Free entry to our properties for you, a guest and your children (under 18)
