**Contract Type**: Permanent, Full-time
**Working Hours**: Monday to Friday, 08:00 - 16:00
**Salary**: £28,000 per annum
**Start Date**: ASAP
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate **Safeguarding and Welfare Officer** to join our college in Newham. If you are passionate about student welfare, with a strong understanding of safeguarding practices, this is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in young people's lives.
**Role Overview**
As a Safeguarding and Welfare Officer, you will be responsible for promoting and ensuring the safety and well-being of all students within the college. You will work closely with students, staff, and external agencies to ensure safeguarding procedures are effectively implemented and student welfare needs are met.
**Safeguarding and Welfare Officer Key Responsibilities**:
- Act as the primary point of contact for all safeguarding and welfare concerns, ensuring all cases are handled sensitively and in accordance with legal and college guidelines.
- Manage and maintain confidential safeguarding records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations.
- Work collaboratively with staff and external agencies, including social services, to coordinate effective responses to safeguarding issues.
- Support students experiencing personal, social, or emotional challenges by providing guidance and signposting them to relevant support services.
- Deliver safeguarding training and awareness sessions to staff and students.
- Ensure the college's safeguarding policies and procedures are up-to-date and adhered to.
- Contribute to the development of a safe and inclusive environment for all students, fostering a culture of trust and respect.
- Participate in safeguarding meetings and contribute to the college’s broader welfare strategy.
**Requirements**:
- **Level 3 qualification in safeguarding** (mandatory).
- Experience working in a safeguarding or welfare role, preferably within an educational setting.
- Strong knowledge of current safeguarding legislation, guidance, and best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive situations with care and professionalism.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a commitment to promoting the welfare and safety of students.
