We require Personal Assistants/Support Workers to carry out waking night shifts. You will be supporting our client (John), an 18-year-old who lives with his parents and 2 siblings in a rural area of Shrewsbury. John is a happy and sociable young man who has Cerebral Palsy, resulting in physical and learning disabilities. John is most comfortable being around his family, spending time having days out with them. When at home, watching films with his siblings and using his sensory aids/computer with support from them and his daytime support workers.

John is wheelchair dependent for his mobility. John has limited verbal communication but can show when he is happy or in discomfort. His care needs are complex and require supervision 24 hours a day. John is fed and medicated via PEG and has complex care needs so requires someone with experience and willingness to undertake relevant training. His sleep pattern is inconsistent, at most he will sleep for 6 hours but usually sleeps for 3-4 hours a night. John has his own area in the property, but support staff are connected to the rest of the house via a call button system.

Your role will be to support John throughout the night, reassure and comfort him when he wakes and to reposition, monitor him, administer medication and feeds and provide all aspects of personal care, night routine, other appropriate activities and keep accurate records.

This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated person to join a small home care team and develop existing skills to support this very special young man. The post is a truly rewarding role for someone who can communicate effectively and has an ability to work skilfully with patience, understanding, warmth and compassion within a family environment.
