Store Keeper

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and capable Store Keeper to join the Clinical Biochemistry Department at Synnovis King’s College Hospital Foundation Trust.

The Clinical Biochemistry Laboratories at King’s College Hospital (part of Synnovis Analytics LLP) provides specialist service delivery using latest technology in a variety of laboratories (Blood Sciences, Metabolic, Immunochemistry, Porphyrins, Gastrointestinal, Steroids, Diabetes, POCT, Toxicology and Trace Elements).

The post holder will support the work of Biomedical Scientists in the Blood Sciences Laboratory & Clinical Biochemistry to maintain a minimum stock of consumables and reagents throughout the laboratory and to monitor stock levels using the stock Management system.

Also, the post holder will assist in the specialist cleaning of kitchen area of the staff common room, laboratory benches, glassware and supply of laboratory coats in both Reference Biochemistry and Blood Sciences Laboratory.

**Responsibilities**:
Organisational

Understand the management structure of the department and own role within the structure

Attendance at local and corporate induction sessions and Organisational mandatory recall training

Aware of Organisation policies and Departmental policies, including sickness absence reporting, requesting annual leave, health, and safety.

Communication

Communicate any event that may cause a service delivery failure or other issues/problems that may affect the department to line manager in the work area.

Provide and receive information to and from work colleagues or users of the service, including direction of enquiries to the appropriate member of staff

Prioritise and plan own workload within a given time period and communicate own work priorities within the team. Demonstrate flexibility in carrying out own work priorities within the team context

Technical & Special duties

To undertake special duties such as cleaning of kitchen area of the staff common room, laboratory glassware, laboratory benches and equipment.

To prepare and issue urine specimen containers with appropriative preservatives

To maintain a minimum stock of consumables and some laboratory reagents throughout the laboratory using the automated stock management system.

To carry out regular defrosting of laboratory freezers in co-operation with laboratory staff and ensure fridge/freezer temperatures are recorded on a daily basis

To supply and maintain a useable stock of coffee, milk, tea, sugar, hot chocolate, soup in the kitchen area of the staff room.

To regulate the supply of laboratory coats so that every member of staff has reasonable access to fresh clean coats.

To discard 24-urine in the sluice room and other fluid specimens safely following laboratory SOP.

To change all clinical waste bags throughout the department as when necessary and label accordingly.

Perform role as part of the team recognising others skills and priorities

Complete other appropriate duties as directed by the line management.

Laboratory Informatics

Comply with local and national policies for the safe, secure and confidential processing and storage of patient and other laboratory information

Records are kept up to date and stored safely to ensure compliance with good work practices required for the standards of ISO 15189:2012/2022 United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS)

Staff Management

Cooperate with trainers when learning new tasks and contribute to the basic training of others

Maintain good work relations with all members of staff, and promote effective teamwork recognising others skills and priorities.

Resource Management

Use departmental resources efficiently and advise line manager when stocks of reagents and consumables are approaching minimum stock levels

Ensure all stock items are checked and topped up on a daily basis.

Risk Management

Work within the Blood Sciences Laboratory & Clinical Biochemistry’s, Safety Policy and Code of Practice and maintain Health and Safety Standards in the laboratory ensuring less experienced staff also conform to the regulations

Maintain laboratory equipment in a safe clean working condition

Maintain the laboratory and workbenches clean and tidy

Maintain awareness of hazards inherent in the laboratories and use adequate precautions at all times

Safely handle, use or dispose of blood, urine, other body tissue, hazardous and or radioactive chemicals

Identify problems affecting own area of work and respond in an appropriate time and manner problems referred to line manager where appropriate
