Consultant in Respiratory Medicine

**_Main Responsibilities_**

You will be joining a team of five Respiratory medicine consultants with an interest in acute care, interventional respiratory medicine and medical education. The wider respiratory team is supported by a team of 12 juniors, 8 ANPs, one physiotherapist and three physiologists. There is a dedicated visiting thoracic surgeon from a local hospital, and oncology and palliative care support is based locally. The department also have excellent links for tertiary care with other local hospitals.

You will get the chance to develop an interest in lung cancer, thoracoscopy and endo-bronchial ultrasound and any new Interventional procedures introduced in the future.

**You will be responsible for...**
- Inpatient and outpatient care of respiratory and general medicine patients. (You should have the necessary skills to provide acute care, thoracoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound.)
- 1/4 of the respiratory bed base of 58 beds across 2 wards with eight non-HDU NIV beds, and crossover your colleagues as and when required.
- Non-elective activity including clinics will be shared among the five-consultant team and two senior specialty doctors.
- You'll be part of the general medicine on-call at 1 in 22 frequency.
- You'll be expected to provide specialist respiratory consultations in acute medicine, critical care and in other medicine specialties.

The city has been described as a commuter haven as you can be in London or Birmingham in less than 45 minutes by train. You will also be near the M1 with access to Bedford, Luton Northampton and Cambridge. What’s more is that, you also have five international airports within a 90 minute drive giving you the chance to escape on holiday with ease.

Aside from the excellent transport links, the city is popular due to its affordable modern housing. The average property price is less than half the price of living in London.
