The aim of the Patient Flow Co-ordinator is to provide support to the Quality & Safety Lead (QSL) in dealing with general administrative tasks. The concept is designed to free up valuable nursing and medical time to avoid delays, keep within the breach time frames and improve the patient experience.

The Flow Co-ordinator will be expected to work as part of the team, under the direction of the QSL and daily Duty Manager, ensuring smooth flow of patients through the department and Emergency Floor.

To communicate with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and other agencies when necessary.

To book transport for patients if required in the absence of the ED Admin Clerk.

To assist in the provision of a safe environment for the safety and welfare of patients and staff within trust policies.

To be customer aware at all times.

To recognise escalating workloads and potential situations where patients may breach and instigate appropriate action.

To ensure data quality awareness is promoted throughout the Department, including implementation of necessary procedures and guidelines.

To provide administrative support to the QSL to support the smooth flow of patients through the Emergency Floor (EF) all leading from the Emergency Department (ED).

To provide clerical support for the EF Daily PLD checks for DTA’s

To ensure the ED computer system is up-to-date (in real time) at all times.

To respond to numerous general enquiries by either the telephone or face to face with patients/ relatives and staff regarding the flow of patients through the department.

To bleep the necessary specialty staff as requested by the QSL/EPIC ensuring time of reviews are documented appropriately.

Escalation of KPI’s to DM

The job description is not intended to be exhaustive and it is likely that duties may be altered from time to time in the light of changing circumstances and after consultation with the post holder. The post holder would also be expected to learn the admin/ booking process to help assist during periods of need.
