An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Patient Safety Team at the Royal Berkshire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

As an Associate Director of Nursing you will provide support to the Deputy Chief Nurse and Chief Nurse.

The post holder will have a leadership role, reporting to the Deputy Chief Nurse and working closely with senior leaders, clinicians and managers across the Trust to ensure that services are safe and effective. They will create an environment, which promotes and supports patient safety and high quality care.

The role is responsible for the management of quality, risk and patient safety across the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust. This encompasses clinical effectiveness, risk and incident management, learning from incidents and compliance. The post holder is overall accountable for all the services provided by the Patient Safety Team, Health & Safety & Risk Team.

The Associate Director of Nursing will provide strategic direction to the Trusts patient safety providing expert advice and guidance throughout the Trust. The post holder will lead and deliver on a range of patient safety & quality projects and contributing to the wider Trust Quality Strategy, Risk Strategy and compliance with the Care Quality Commissions standards.

Advise the Trust Board of any risk, patient safety concerns which would have the potential to impact on CQC compliance requirements.

The role is responsible for direct management of the Safety, Datix, Tissue Viability, Risk and Moving and Handling Team. The post holder will also where required will provide cover for the Associate Director of Nursing (Governance and Mortality) and Deputise for the Deputy Chief Nurse.

**Principal Responsibilities**: Strategy & Leadership

Take a key role in shaping the on-going direction/strategy patient safety in the Trust. Including the roll out of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF).

Responsible and accountable for the development and delivery of all agreed plans for the Trust’s on-going quality strategy.

To provide leadership and line management for the Head of Patient Safety, Senior Safety Lead for Women's and Children’s, Head of risk and other associated teams.

As a member of the Quality Governance Committee and Patient Safety Committee, to ensure that these are provided with regular and comprehensive reports sufficient to enable them to fulfil their monitoring and assurance responsibilities on all aspects of compliance and patient safety.

Responsible for leading the delivery of the Trust patient safety key initiatives/ metrics

To lead the development of priorities for patient safety education and training raising awareness of patient safety and risk management across the Trust in line with the Trust Training Needs Analysis

Lead on the annual programme of Trust-wide patient safety priorities and a programme and framework for its delivery including the development and monitoring of patient safety metrics and indicators

Accountable for leading, planning and delivery of patient safety improvement work streams (including NHS Safety Strategy) across the organisation in partnership with clinical leads and external with other providers or organisations to improve safety.

Promote a culture of innovation and support the development of QIPP schemes that increase quality and support the overall delivery of financial targets

**Principal Responsibilities**: Management

Take a key role in shaping the on-going direction/strategy for quality governance, compliance, clinical effectiveness and patient safety.

Provide transformational leadership to the teams and directing their programmes of work ensuring the delivery of service and personal objectives, ensuring that:
Comprehensive staff development, appraisal and competence

Standards/systems are in place and utilised

Relevant Trust policies and procedures are complied with

Full compliance with mandatory and statutory training

Ensure that the Care Groups receive appropriate support from the Patient Safety Team to enable them to manage patient safety

To deputise for the Deputy Chief Nurse as required internally and externally.

To project plan the Trusts patient safety agenda responding to any national or locally changes as necessary.
