**Purpose of the position**:
As the EHS Project Specialist, you’re a key member of the Plant Team, reporting to the Plant Manager. You will contribute to the success of Ball by Implementing the plant’s environmental, health and safety (EHS), fire safety and property protection (FSPP) sustainability programs to ensure the safety and well-being of all workers and protection of the environment for the expansion project.
**Key responsibilities include**:
- Work with the Plant EHS & Systems Manager and other functional department leaders to assist with the development and implementation of EHS programs, requirements, rules, procedures, systems to manage EHS risk and meet all EHS requirements and drive continuous improvement.
- Establish and implement robust communication and consultation channels to raise awareness, drive engagement, provide information on EHS issues including oversight of the EHS committee and liaison with Safety Representatives.
- Ensure compliance with the integrated EHS management systems, including oversight of external and internal audits, FSPP surveys and management reviews. Follows up on corrective actions.
- Assist where required with the implementation of occupational / industrial hygiene, occupational health and well-being programmes in accordance with identified risks and legal requirements in consultation with HR and external providers.
- Identify EHS training needs for the expansion including induction training based on foreseeable EHS risk and EHS programmes such as BBS and facilitate, develop and deliver suitable EHS training including the testing of competency to ensure safe operations by workers.
- Work on the EHS requirements of projects and management of change so hazards are adequately controlled.
- Act / support as liaison with Group Sustainability and maintain oversight of Ball’s sustainability programmes and record and report data in accordance with requirements.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of an EHS management system that complies with the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) requirements.
- Support and implement sustainability strategies and plans beneficial to the organisation, workers, communities and the environment.
**Knowledge and experience required**:
- Relevant EHS qualification - NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent
- Relevant experience of at least 3 years in an EHS role in manufacturing, heavy engineering, construction or similar industry
- Comprehensive knowledge of EHS legislative requirements
- Managing fire safety and property protection insurance risks
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and to lead and work cross-functionally.
- Excellent computer skills (Proficient in MS Office Suite)
- Fluent in English
