About the role
Are you a qualified teacher or do you possess substantial experience working with schools? Are
you passionate about sustainability? If you’re seeking a new challenge with the opportunity to
influence waste prevention education in north London, then this role is made for you
NLWA is looking for an enthusiastic professional to spearhead a groundbreaking primary school
initiative. This role involves developing and delivering an innovative programme that will
influence whole school behaviour change and support education on waste prevention. You will
craft and test a programme for delivery in-schools and at our new state of the art facility at
Edmonton EcoPark. Collaborating with our seven constituent boroughs, you will play a pivotal
role in waste prevention practices across multiple schools.
We are looking for a dynamic individual with a flair for creativity, driven by a genuine desire
to influence and revolutionise waste prevention education in north London. Your tangible
experience within an educational setting will be crucial, allowing you to leverage your
expertise effectively in this role.
As a member of the Waste Prevention team, reporting to the Behaviour Change Project Manager,
your responsibilities will encompass developing and delivering the new programme to primary
schools in north London and at Edmonton EcoPark. The role will involve navigating school
structures, engaging with school leaders, curriculum coordinators, premises staff, and
students. Collaboration with our borough partners is also integral to ensure the success of the
programme.
In return, we offer a dynamic and supportive work environment that fosters growth and skill
development within a high-profile organisation. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute
to a pioneering programme, actively shaping the landscape of waste prevention education in
north London.
About You
We are seeking a qualified teacher or an individual who has significant experience of working
with young people in an educational setting and have experience or substantial experience
working with schools and the national curriculum.
As a confident communicator, you should possess the ability to engage with a diverse range of
stakeholders to gather feedback. Your creative mindset and proactive approach will be
instrumental in navigating a high-volume and varied workload effectively.
The role requires you to develop, plan, and deliver various activities in primary schools
across north London and have the skills to assimilate new information and present it in the
context of the national curriculum.
Your capacity to devise creative solutions to convey sustainability-related information to
people with varying levels of knowledge is crucial and you will be experienced in working to
deadlines and be confident in communicating, both orally and in-writing. Practical experience
of MS office is also essential.
Whilst not mandatory, possession of a valid and clean UK driving licence would be advantageous.
About NLWA
Our mission is to preserve resources and the environment for future generations by exemplary
planning, innovation and communication in managing north London’s waste.
We serve two million residents in seven boroughs and run communications and engagement
campaigns to help them reduce their rubbish and recycle more. We campaign for government and
industry action to reduce unnecessary single-use items, encourage reuse and repair and promote
effective recycling.
To help tackle the climate emergency and to prevent rubbish going to landfill, we are building
the greenest Energy Recovery Facility in the country and modern recycling facilities at the
Edmonton EcoPark, through the North London Heat and Power Project.
