London, United Kingdom Association of British Credit Unions Limited Full time

Job description

Credit unions in Britain have been in existence for 60 years. There have always been representative bodies in the sector throughout that period. Emerging from the former Credit Union League of Great Britain (CULGB) in 1984 ABCUL has always been the major credit union trade association representing the largest number of credit unions in England, Scotland and Wales.

We represent over two thirds of the more than 300 credit unions operating across England, Scotland and Wales, and provide a wide range of services to our member credit unions to support them to develop and thrive as trusted providers of financial services to communities across Britain.

We are now seeking to appoint an exceptional individual to support our continued development with our membership and stakeholders. The role holder will report to the Head of Advocacy and Projects who is looking for an individual who can:

- Monitor, filter and analyse a wide variety of sources for information relevant to credit unions including information from government departments, regulators, media and other stakeholders
- Research and analysis of the work of credit unions
- Gather information and draw up policy positions to ensure that credit unions’ interests are represented
- Assist with the administration of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Credit Unions and Scottish Parliament’s Cross-Party Group on Credit Unions
- Assist with the co-ordination of events, including parliamentary meetings and member conferences
- Support the development of relationships with external stakeholders and ABCUL members, to include preparing briefings, presentations, consultation responses, web content and news articles

Some experience of policy work is an advantage. Strong communication skills in writing and verbally will be required along with an organised approach to managing information. Education to degree level or equivalent experience is expected.
