Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) Band 2 progression to band 3 (Full or Part Time) - Various departments across Whittington Health - Hospital Site
We are looking for enthusiastic, kind and compassionate, motivated individuals to join our hospital teams in delivering a high standard of patient-centred care on our dynamic and friendly units.
Healthcare Support Workers (HCSW’s) are vital members of our team, we know that the HCSW’s are often the first person our patients talk with and trust. HCSW’s work as part of the ward/department multidisciplinary team under the supervision and support of registered nurses.
We are keen to support you in this role and help you develop. Applicants will be supported on a training/developmental programme and paid at a Band 2 until their Band 3 competencies are signed off at which point you will be uplifted to a Band 3. You will be supported to achieve this by the HCSW Development team. You will also have the opportunity to undertake the Care Certificate.
If you are 18 or above have limited or no previous care experience and not yet attained the care certificate and can demonstrate empathy and compassion and share our ethos of maintaining patients’ self-respect and dignity, we would be delighted to hear from you.
You will be invited to undertake a literacy and numeracy test. If you are successful in passing our literacy and numeracy test you will be invited for interview. Please note your interview will be on a different day from the literacy and numeracy test

The minimum hours we can support is 23.0hrs
HCSW’s work as part of the clinical team appointed to support Registered Nurses in the delivery of direct patient care. HCSW’s will undertake a range of activities under the supervision of a registered nurse, having been assessed and deemed competent in the activities required. HCSW’s contribute towards the clinical department and organisation in the provision of a safe and caring environment. The post holder may be required to work anywhere within the trust.
Key working relationships include all members of the multi-professional team, including nursing and medical staff, allied health professionals and support workers.
Assist and prioritise patients with all aspects of their care as delegated by the registered nurse:
- Undertake personal care duties.
- Support patients with toileting, bathing, dressing, dressing, feeding.
- Record patient information within scope.
- To ensure all contact with patients, families, carers is carried out with care, compassion and dignity and in line with Trust values.
- Liaise effectively with nursing and multi professional team members within the scope of the HCSW role and report back to the nurse in charge.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment and equipment.
- Report any issues at work that may put health, safety, and security of staff, patients and visitors at risk.
- Actively engage in training opportunities
