**About the role and our team**
We are looking for an Upland Ranger to join the Agriculture and Lands Directorate on the Isle of Man
This is an important role where you will assist the Uplands Manager in overseeing the management and use of the Department’s upland estate, covering some 8,000 hectares. You will be proactive and able to influence and deliver sustainable land management by embracing nature based solutions to deliver multiple positive outcomes. You will be required to engage and work with a range of stakeholders and partner organisations.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Implementing positive land management to protect and improve habitats, biodiversity and ecosystem services
- Enforcing byelaw, public engagement and education
- Managing wildfire risk and resilience
- Protecting birds of conservation concern and their nests from disturbance and limiting predation where possible
- Surveying and reporting on estate infrastructure, wildlife and habitats
- Managing health and safety during all work related operations
We are committed to addressing the climate emergency and biodiversity crisis and you will play a key role in helping deliver and implement nature based solutions such as, but not limited to: peatland restoration, moorland management, habitat enhancement and species protection.

**What can this role offer me?**
We will provide you with a suitable vehicle, allowing you to have the option to start your working day from home, heading straight to site or the office/depot as required. You will have access to a shared working space within our award winning eco-build office, Thie Slieau Whallian, which is set in the beautiful Garey-ny-Cloie gardens at St John’s.
You will work a flexible 37 hour week and agree with your manager a pattern of work to best suit seasonal activities and events. This will include some weekend, public holiday, early morning and evening work.
We actively support learning and development and you’ll have access to our in-house Learning, Education and Development Centre and the fantastic range of fully funded courses we support.
