Originator (European Power & Gas)

Power and Gas Trading is an established trading business within the Group’s Energy Marketing & Trading (EM&T) organisation. At our core EM&T is a 700+ strong physical energy trader with offices in London, Denmark and Singapore, and the platform to trade across LNG, gas, power and energy attributes - connecting producers and off takers in the wholesale energy markets.

The Power and Gas Origination team are an integral part of the wider trading team, leading the expansion into new markets and products. We cover all major European markets and aim to identify, negotiate, and execute structured gas and power transactions including transport, storages and bespoke upstream off-take.

Functionally, the Team itself contains 3 distinct areas of complimentary activity
- ** Physical Trading** - daily trading and Management of a portfolio of Physical Gas assets Europe wide
- ** Origination** - supporting both team Physical Gas activity as well as wider Power and Gas trading desk requirements and on occasion wider Centrica Group activity/needs
- ** Gas Contract Management** - Responsible for managing all contractual activity pre and post execution for transactions related to physical gas asset activity.

This specific role sits within the Origination area, though will be expected to work closely with Trading and Contract Management team.

The Origination team is responsible for originating, creating and executing structured Power and Gas transactions that build the trading portfolio and which are able to generate P&L for the Power and Gas desks. We are a tight-knit, entrepreneurial team with pan-European coverage and have aggressive growth agenda.

The right individual will be able to build and maintain external relationships to maximise Gas and ideally Power counterparty coverage and growth of Centrica Energy Marketing & Trading market footprint. You will be commercially astute and a self-starter with the ability to identify, structure, articulate and execute transactions to grow and manage the risks of the EM&T trading portfolio from prompt optimisation through to long dated strategic transactions (likely focus on liquid curve trading window 1-24months).

The focus of the role is expected to be non-UK Gas markets with a mandate to expand our counterparty and product reach. An advantage would be additional power market experience and/or adjacent markets including cross-commodity transactions. Experience in the Power and/or Gas markets, ideally from being in a directly commercial / Front Office role is essential and given the continued convergence of LNG and Gas markets, relevant LNG experience will also be considered.

Close coordination is required with the Trading teams, Operations teams and other middle office/support functions, and the individual is expected to be a team-player that is able to foster a collaborative and open working environment across both business.

This is a London based (near to Marble Arch) role.
