**About the role**
The job of the **Locality Steward** includes inspecting the highways in line with the HMP, responding to faults reported by customers, inspecting damage and evaluating what is needed to repair defects in a timely way, responding to emergency situations on the highway, as well as engaging with Ward Members, local Parish Councils and local communities.
You will use a risk-based approach and provide a practical and reasonable evaluation of the risks and potential consequences identified considering all highway users and in particular the most vulnerable.
As a member of the Locality Team, you will be reporting to the Senior Locality Steward and Stakeholder Manager, and be directly responsible for the delivery of the locality services within a defined geographic area or ‘locality’ (a collection of identified wards and parishes)
Using the latest mobile technology; you will need to ensure accurate and timely records are kept as well as demonstrating attention to detail when raising job orders to ensure the safety of work crews and the travelling public.

**What you'll be doing**
As a **Locality Steward** you will be doing the following:
- To undertake statutory Highway, Street works, Playgrounds, skip and scaffolding inspections and any other site as identified on the network requiring inspection including additional highway safety inspections and erosions sites
- To understand the detailed service delivery requirements within a locality and be the custodian of services to the agreed
- Be a point of contact for ward members and parishes councils, building relationships with these key stakeholders to understand the local need and inform on the effective delivery of local services within a locality.
- Assist the Stakeholder Manager in the preparation of the Annual Plan with particular focus of a specific locality.
- Attend local meetings to identify, understand and develop outline solutions for key service-related issues.
- To identify and gather evidence in relation to Green Claims.
- Ensure the BBLP workforce comply with legal and BBLP requirements concerning Safety, Health, Environment and Sustainability.
- As well as being qualified on highways, footways and playgrounds expert knowledge in one of the following fields to provide support and advice to other stewards in these areas: gullies and drains, flood alleviation, trees, hedges and grass verges, road markings, bridges and other structures and/or projects of social value, biodiversity, and ecological benefit.
- Build a portfolio of qualifications, training records and achievements to support the role and career development.
- Identify and resolve issues on the network through Self-Generated work - Right First-time approach

- Highly customer focused with experience of working positively with different sectors of the locality (members, parishes, public, and community groups).
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to deal with difficult or confrontational situations.

- Ability to work on their own initiative and be able to schedule workload to meet changing priorities.
- A person whose attitudes, conduct and demeanour reflect the BB values and who can effectively represent and promote the reputation of the company.
- Full Driver’s License will be needed for the role, this is essential
